I was watching some old clips of legendary club captains recently, and it got me thinking about how much the "vibe" of leadership has changed in modern sports. It used to feel like you just picked the loudest, most grizzled veteran on the pitch and called it a day. Now, it feels like there's this constant tug-of-war between sticking with the established faces everyone knows and trying to hand the armband to someone younger who represents where the club is actually heading.

Personally, I struggle with this. There is a massive argument for the veteran who has seen it all—the guy who can settle the nerves when things go sideways in the 80th minute. But then you have those rising stars who carry this massive amount of technical influence and "it" factor. If you give it to the kid too early, do you stunt their growth? Or if you wait too long, are you just clinging to the past?

I feel like every club goes through these cycles of identity crises. Do you think it's better to reward long-term loyalty, or is it time to let the next generation take the reins and shape the culture themselves?
