I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the way high-level summits are handled. We always hear these big stories about "key meetings" or "personal breakthroughs" between leaders, but I can't help but feel like a lot of it is just theater. It feels like we’re sold this idea that if two powerful people just sit in a room and shake hands, decades of deep-seated, complex friction will just evaporate.

In my experience, real change usually comes from the grind—the boring, technical stuff that happens behind the scenes long after the cameras have been packed away. When the focus shifts to the optics of a single meeting, it feels less like progress and more like a PR stunt. It makes me wonder if we're being conditioned to believe that individual personalities matter more than the actual institutional frameworks that hold everything together.

Does anyone else feel like these "big moment" meetings are more about managing perceptions than actually solving the underlying issues?
