I was thinking about this earlier today while watching an old film, and it got me a bit melancholy. There’s something incredibly heavy about the idea of a visionary finally hanging it up. Not because they’ve "run out of steam" or lost their touch, but because life just forces the hand.

It feels like we’re seeing more and more of these legendary creators stepping away right when they’re still at the top of their game. It’s a weird tension, isn't it? You want them to keep going because their perspective is irreplaceable, but you also respect that they have to prioritize themselves over the craft.

I can't help but wonder how much of the "soul" of cinema changes when these specific voices go silent. Once a certain style of storytelling is gone, can it ever really be replicated by a new generation, or are we just going to see a lot of imitations?

Do you think we'll see a real shift in the quality of movies once this current wave of masters officially retires?
