I feel like I see this happen all the time in sports, and I can never decide if it's a smart tactical move or just a sign of desperation. You see a team struggling in a specific position, and instead of actually making a splash or committing to a long-term rebuild, they just grab a veteran on a low-stakes deal to fill the hole for a few weeks.
It’s a bit like when I was working in retail and we’d hire seasonal staff just to get us through a holiday rush. It solves the immediate headache, sure, but it doesn't fix the underlying staffing issue. It feels like a temporary bandage on a much larger wound.
Don't get me wrong, having experience in the dugout is vital, especially when things are getting tense during the season. But at what point does "filling a gap" just become an excuse for not being aggressive enough in the market?
Do you guys think these short-term veteran signings are actually helpful for the team's chemistry, or are they just a way to kick the can down the road?
