I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the "friendship vs. business" dynamic in professional sports. It’s one thing when it’s just a job, but when you have guys who have been in the trenches together, you’d think there’d be a certain level of unspoken code about where you land.

I remember back in my local rec league, a couple of guys who had played together for years split up. One guy went to a rival team just because they offered better travel perks, and the tension on the court was palpable. It wasn't even about the game anymore; it was about that feeling of being "sold out" for a strategic move. It makes you wonder if true loyalty can even exist in a league where everyone is essentially a free agent of their own brand.

Does the "business" side of being an elite athlete eventually kill the camaraderie that makes the sport great, or is it just the natural evolution of the game?
