I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how certain cities seem to suddenly pop up on everyone's radar just because they managed to snag one major tournament or a week of high-profile matchups. It feels like a massive gamble for local infrastructure and businesses. You spend all this money to roll out the red carpet, hoping the "vibe" sticks, but does it actually change how people perceive a place long-term, or is it just a flash in the pan?

I remember a few years back when my hometown tried to host a major regional championship. For about four days, the energy was incredible—every restaurant was packed and the streets felt alive. But once the trophy was handed out and the crowds headed home, it felt like the city just went back into a coma. It felt like we spent a fortune on a temporary high rather than building something sustainable.

It makes me wonder if these big sports showcases are actually worth the investment for the local economy, or if they're just expensive PR stunts to make a city look "world-class" for a weekend. Do you guys think hosting these massive events actually helps a city's reputation in the long run, or is it mostly just a temporary boost for the hospitality industry?
