I was watching some highlights from last season and it got me thinking about how much weight we put on those big offseason moves. Every year, the media goes crazy about that one specific player who is supposed to be the "missing piece" to a championship puzzle. It’s easy to get swept up in the hype, especially when the talent is undeniable, but I always find myself a bit skeptical.
In my experience watching sports, a superstar can definitely raise the floor of a roster, but I wonder if it's enough to actually change the outcome of a deep playoff run. You can have the most dominant force on one side of the ball, but if the rest of the unit doesn't click or if the scheme doesn't fit, it feels like a lot of pressure to put on one person's shoulders. It feels like we're looking for a silver bullet every single summer.
Do you guys think a single elite addition can really turn a contender into a champion, or is it mostly just marketing to get us excited for training camp?
