I’ve been watching a lot more women's basketball lately, and honestly, I’m starting to feel like the officiating is becoming a total circus. It feels like every time a certain player does something, the league is under a microscope, and every time a technical gets handed out, there’s a massive legalistic back-and-forth about whether the rules actually apply to them or if they’re being targeted.
It’s getting hard to just enjoy the game when it feels like the drama is being manufactured by the league office or by teams trying to protect their biggest assets. I remember back in the day when a foul was just a foul, and you played through it. Now, it feels like every single minor infraction turns into a week-long debate about suspensions and appeals. It takes away from the actual athleticism on the court when the headlines are always about whether a player is "one step away" from being sidelined.
Do you guys think the leagues are being too soft on their superstars to protect their ratings, or are we just seeing more scrutiny because the spotlight is bigger than ever?
