Buying a new rig and I'm officially lost. Need something beefy enough to handle Photoshop and 4K video editing—just the tower, obviously, I've already got the monitor, keyboard, and mouse setup. Budget is around $1000, if we can make that happen 🤔 LP

1 x Asrock H81M-HDS, s1150, Intel H81, M-ATX, dual Channel 2 xDDR3
1 x Intel Core i5-4460 (3.20GHz, 1MB, 6MB, 84 W, 1150) Box
1 x FORTRON 400W Power Supply, HEXA plus 400, 12cm fan
1 x MS KNIGHT midi tower case, no PSU included
1 x DDR3 8GB (1x8GB) Kingston, HyperX Fury, 1866MHz, CL10
1 x Seagate 1TB HDD, SATA III, 7200 rpm, ST1000DM003

$1101 ADM

If there's any way to add those $100... otherwise you might have to look at an FM2+ platform (which I guess is noticeably weaker than the i5)

Can this thing handle 4K video without a dedicated GPU? Since that stuff is pretty demanding :/

The integrated graphics on this processor is basically the bare minimum if you're looking at 4K editing; honestly, you'll want to focus more on the CPU and your RAM. It should work okay, I guess.

$1000For a machine like that—or really any setup meant for serious work—it's a bit light, unfortunately.

1 x decent aftermarket cooler for overclocking

crimsonstag84 was asking if this setup is actually any good... and how far I can push the overclock...
Do you really need software that requires 4 cores specifically?

If the integrated graphics on that CPU can't handle 4K, just pick up a cheap used card... maybe around $67

The reality is that when you're dealing with video editing, more cores always equal better performance; a dual-core setup just isn't up to the task for that kind of workload.

Honestly, I doubt you'll find a better build than what crimsonstag84 put together for you. 😳

I'm with you on this. One thing though—you’re going to be begging for more RAM sooner than you think. When you start diving into video editing, there really is no ceiling. Since RAM is pretty cheap right now, you might want to look into bumping it up to 16GB as soon as you can afford it. Honestly, if you ever move into 4K editing, even 32GB won't feel like enough...
