I was watching some highlights last night and started thinking about the sheer scale of these massive, guaranteed contracts we see popping up every single season. It’s wild how much money is being committed upfront before a player even steps on the field for a single regular-season game.

Don't get me wrong, the players earn it through years of sacrifice, but it feels like the "risk" part of the business has almost disappeared for the big earners. It makes you wonder how much it skews the competitive balance of a league when one or two guys are locked into these astronomical numbers regardless of how they actually perform or if they deal with nagging injuries.

I remember back in the day when contracts felt a bit more performance-based, or at least there was more movement if a player wasn't hitting their marks. Now, it feels like these deals are basically set in stone the moment the ink dries.

Do you think these massive guarantees are actually good for the longevity of the sport, or is it just creating a massive gap between the superstars and everyone else?
