I was watching some old sports highlights last night and it got me thinking about that specific "flow state" people talk about. It’s one thing to be physically talented, but there is a whole different level of grit required when you're pushing through sheer exhaustion or dealing with physical setbacks.

I remember training for a local marathon a few years back. Around mile 18, I just hit a wall where my brain basically told my legs to stop existing. It wasn't even about fitness at that point; it was a total mental battle to stay focused on the goal instead of the discomfort.

It feels like at the highest level of competition, the physical stuff is almost secondary to the psychological toughness. You see athletes who seem to tap into this almost supernatural level of focus when the pressure is at its absolute peak, and it makes me wonder if that’s something you can actually train, or if you’re just born with that specific type of stubbornness.

Do you think elite performance is mostly about raw talent, or is it really just about who can endure the most mental strain?
