I was watching a game last night and it got me thinking about how much pressure is placed on these young players to be "the guy" immediately. There’s always that tension between the veteran who knows the system inside and out and the high-profile rookie who has all the theoretical upside but zero real-world experience.

In my experience, coaches almost always lean toward the veteran because it's the safer move for their own jobs. If you start the rookie and it goes south, it's your neck on the line. But if you sit the rookie and he develops into a superstar elsewhere, you look like you missed the boat. It feels like a lose-lose situation for a lot of leadership.

I personally think there's a huge value in letting a kid learn the ropes without the weight of the entire franchise on his shoulders, but I also get why nobody wants to gamble with their career.

Do you think a team should prioritize immediate stability, or is it better to take the hit now to build something long-term?
