I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much of a player's loyalty is actually "for sale" or, more accurately, how much it's dictated by opportunity. We see it all the time in the pros—guys who grew up in one system but suddenly find themselves wearing the colors of a different flag because it's the path to the biggest stage.

It’s not that it’s disloyal; it’s just a weird psychological shift. I remember watching a former college standout jump from a local hero status in his hometown to being a complete stranger to those same fans once he signed a big overseas contract. One day you're their guy, the next you're just another name on a roster halfway across the world.

Do you think fans have a right to feel "betrayed" when a player prioritizes international play or different opportunities, or should we just accept that professional sports is strictly a business of opportunity?
