I picked up a new Dell laptop, and the Scroll function is completely unresponsive. I checked their official site, but there isn't a single driver listed for it. On my older Dell, I just use the Synaptics driver to get things moving. What’s even more baffling is that this new machine is running Windows 8, an operating system that feels entirely foreign to me at this point.

What do you mean it isn't working? Which specific model are you running?

So the touchpad itself is responsive, but the scroll function is just dead?

Give this a shot:

Alright everyone, after diving deep into some intensive research and running through various troubleshooting steps, I've realized there are a few critical things you need to keep in mind during the installation process:

Installation Mode: Use BIOS (only). If you select LEGACY, you're going to run into major touchpad issues.

Once you've finished installing Windows 10, you simply need to follow this specific driver installation order:
1. Intel NB_Chipset_M Baytrail-M 2. Intel
2. Intel I/O Driver
...and then you can install the rest of the usual junk.

Note: Once everything is set up, double-check that your touchpad is actually enabled via >> Fn + F7

Well, here we go again—another Dell unit has landed on my desk, and once more, the scroll function is completely dead on Windows 10. I’ve decided to perform a clean installation of Windows 7 to see if that clears the air, though I couldn't quite crack this issue on the previous machine. It's actually starting to make me wonder if that specific touch option was simply disabled at the hardware level 🙂
. On the Dell br1, everything works perfectly fine using the Synaptics drivers...
As for the Dell br2, I hit a wall and gave up; I'm just using a mouse now, and frankly, I can't bring myself to care.
Now, we wait and see how the third one behaves.
Just for context, units 1 and 3 are running Windows 7, while unit 2 is on Windows 10.

It might be helpful if you could walk us through what actually went wrong. That way, everyone else can avoid the same headache. 🙂

I ran DriverUpdate, and it ended up pulling down two or three different drivers for the touchscreen.
