Greetings.
I’m running Windows 7, and there's this persistent little flag icon hovering down by the system clock. Every time I click on it, it tries to nag me to sign up for a free upgrade to Windows 10. I am quite simply trying to figure out how to make this flag disappear. I've already tried running CCleaner and digging through "Add or Remove Programs," but there’s absolutely nothing listed there to uninstall. To make matters worse, I can't even right-click it to exit, and I have already disabled Windows update. Any ideas?

Turning off Windows update wasn't the smartest move. You saw that flag pop up because of one specific patch, and I guarantee some future update will just bring it right back. Unless you're truly that impatient, just turn the updates back on and wait for the official Windows 10 launch. Once those roll out, that icon will almost certainly disappear.

I’m pretty low-maintenance when it comes to my tech needs—mostly just jumping between Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Dropbox, my email, and a few other little apps here and there.

Do you think I should go ahead and make the jump to Windows 10, or maybe just stick with my current setup for now?

Is it easy enough to upgrade later on, how much time do I actually have before I need to switch, and will there be any extra costs involved?

Thanks so much! 🙂

p.s. I’m currently running Windows 7

If you're sitting there questioning whether you actually need Windows 10, you probably don't. 😁

Your best bet is to head over to the Control Panel and open up Windows Update.
Let it run long enough to show you every available update on the list.
Once you see that Windows 10 update, just right-click it and select the HIDDEn option to make it invisible.
It should work for you. It stopped bothering me altogether, even though I still have Windows Update set to enabled. 👍
