I'm running Windows 7 Professional, but I have a general question: does the type of OS dictate how much RAM a PC or laptop needs to have? Are there specific limitations or compatibility requirements I should worry about? I'm looking at buying a laptop with 8 to 16 GB of RAM (probably going with 16 GB).

Also, is more memory always an absolute advantage? Cheers..

Obviously, having more memory is always better, but since some operating systems just don't touch all of it, you should definitely go with the 64-bit version instead of the 32-bit one.
It feels a bit weird seeing it labeled as "internal" because that could mean pretty much anything besides RAM. It would be way easier if you just told us which laptop you're rocking—like the brand and the specific model—or even just drop a link so we can actually check it out for you..

I'm eyeing this laptop. I’d probably just slap Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on it.

What’s your take on this CPU? Is it actually worth the price tag? Same goes for the GPU.

The only thing that’s actually going to save you is more RAM—especially if you’re the type to keep a billion browser tabs open or run multiple virtual machines and stuff like that. But, if you’re planning on upgrading to a serious amount of memory, you really need to move up to an x64 system, because x32 or x86 CANNOT HANDLE more than 3.5 GB of RAM.

Will this OS I mentioned above actually work for me?

It's Windows 7 Professional 64.

Is that processor any good?

PS: are x32 and x86 just different names for the same thing?

Just saw this. The product description says 8GB of RAM, but the Technical Specs list 16GB. Now I have no clue how much memory is actually in there.

Yeah, I get why you’re feeling a bit thrown off by how they worded that. The description says 8GB, but then the specs list 16GB of RAM—it's definitely confusing when they don't line up. Maybe they meant that 16GB is the maximum capacity? Like, you could potentially upgrade it to that much if you wanted to. Honestly, the easiest way to clear this up would just be to give the shop a quick call and ask them directly—just to be sure before you pull the trigger.

I think you hit the nail on the head. They love massaging the numbers so they look "better"—it’s not a total lie, but it isn't exactly the truth either. It's just subtle manipulation. They’ll quote an overclocked CPU speed instead of the base clock because, obviously, a higher number sounds more impressive. Just window dressing.

It felt off when they offered 16GB of RAM, too. Didn't really fit with the rest of the specs.

I even reached out to ask if the processor matched the description, but I've been met with nothing but silence.

It’s a pretty solid processor. I mean, what else are you actually going to use a laptop for if not this?

What was your logic behind picking this laptop? You clearly don't have a clue about processors or GPUs, which are literally the most important parts of any rig. Besides, you pick a computer based on what you actually need to get done, not because of some brand name or color scheme...

Just head over to the laptop subforum. Read the pinned megathread to see exactly what info you need to provide so someone can actually recommend a laptop that gives you the best bang for your buck, then just start a new thread there...
