wiredfalcon2 said:Nah, you're missing the point—go read an interview with the Paul Ricard director. Or better yet, look at how race organizers actually pull their funding together. It’s all just basic math, not whatever nonsense you're rambling about. Every infrastructure project today needs an investor, and those investors want their money back. For most tracks, hosting F1 is either a total money pit or just breaking even. Take Melbourne—without $30 million AUD from local authorities, that race is a bust, even if they're leading the season and the stands are packed. For places like Paul Ricard, having an F1 race is pure prestige—they use it as a pitch to sell the track to other racing series. They aren't just living off that one weekend; in fact, Hockenheim nearly went belly up, and now they've got Šoder.

Why would I waste my time reading some random pamphlet from a white-collar track director? I see a massive crowd of Italian drivers out at Grobnik every single weekend—and that’s even with the Corona !!! factor.

Just show up to a track. Any track. See what’s actually happening, then come at me with your "verdicts."

12 positive cases in Bahrain

Formula 1 announced they found 12 positive Corona cases during last weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix.

They ran about 8,150 tests between March 22nd and 28th—testing everyone from the drivers and crew to the support staff and media folks.

"We had 12 positive cases. The FIA and Formula 1 will be releasing this info after every Grand Prix to stay transparent while keeping the whole paddock safe," the Formula 1 statement said.

Two cases were confirmed within the Aston Martin team, and one person from the Channel 4 media crew also tested positive.

The Formula 1 season rolls on with the race at Imola on April 18th.

I wonder if Max got vaccinated?

We know Luis already had it, so he's probably got those antibodies now...

Just get to the track. Any track. See what actually happens. Then come back and try to pass judgment.

Man.

Is Sedona some brand new, state-of-the-art multipurpose circuit? No.
Are those other newly built tracks where they run Formula 1? Yeah.

Does Sedona meet the standards for Grobnik build 1, and will an actual Formula 1 race ever be held there in its current state? Nope.
Do those high-end tracks on the Formula 1 calendar satisfy those requirements—which, by the way, makes them way more expensive? Definitely.

Etc, etc, etc...

Comparing Sedona—which I rented out for $67 just to drive my own car—to any modern Formula 1 track using any kind of logical metric just proves you have zero clue what you're talking about. It's the same deal with this idea that promoters want everyone to finish the race; the actual data shows the opposite, since the races with the most views and highest reach are the ones filled with DNFs and crashes.

You're wrong. There's no shame in admitting it, so just own up. As far as I'm concerned, this debate is over, so you don't need to keep quoting me or replying.

It wasn't just Lewis who tested positive; a ton of them caught it during the break. Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly, Lando Norris, Lance Stroll, plus Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton during the season—maybe even others, I didn't catch everyone, but basically they all picked it up back in January 😬. If I were some conspiracy theorist, I'd say they were probably advised to get it done during the hiatus just to stay safe for the season 😁.

I remember reading somewhere that Toto handled it for some of them, and the elder Stroll did too. A lot of them probably did.

I honestly doubt the ones who didn't get sick aren't vaccinated. It all gets handled through those private channels. If regular folks are scrambling for the vaccine, you can bet these guys are getting it too.

wiredfalcon2 said:It’s not about faking anything. It’s simply that building a track with gravel traps isn't cost-effective if it only serves one specific type of racing. Modern tracks are designed for multiple categories—some even semi-pro levels—where gravel and being too close to walls just don't work. Which new tracks are they building across America, let alone anywhere else, that feature gravel specifically for just one or two motorsport classes? Even the expensive stadiums being built today are multifunctional hubs for concerts, training, shopping centers, or cinemas... not just for a game played once every two weeks. This isn't about deception; it's basic economics.

To be precise, there is no gravel in the "run-off zone" at turn 4 in Bahrain because that area is part of the outer perimeter of the track itself.

Roger Wright94 said:I doubt the guidelines suggested people should just wander off-track whenever they feel like it.
What was actually communicated to drivers was that they wouldn't be penalized for going off at that specific spot. Essentially, if it happens...
There is a massive difference between an accidental excursion and intentionally leaving the track to gain a strategic advantage. Intentionality matters.

If it isn't prohibited, it's allowed.
Lewis and Mercedes were smart enough to take what was offered; they won despite having the slower car. Those who weren't quite as sharp are left with nothing but regrets over a lost opportunity.

Roger Wright94 said:The FIA made a mistake that is now costing them dearly...

I know I read somewhere that Toto picked some up too, and even old man Stroll—lots of them, actually.

Honestly, I doubt the ones who didn't test positive weren't vaccinated—it's all handled through those private channels. If the little guys are scrambling for shots, then these guys definitely are too.

Man, I just remembered—you know, even someone who got the shot can still test positive. They could still spread it...

And did anyone even pass him?

Tsunoda overtook Vettel 3 times.😁

But people only have something to say when he passes Alonso—guess he actually knows who he's passing.

Kid's gonna be great.🙂

Weird logic here...
Vettel started 20th and Yuki was 13th.😍
So I guess Vettel passed Tsunoda first, then Tsunoda just took his spot back... right?

Richard Walker38 said:I just don't get this. First, people claim Mercedes is so dominant that Hamilton had it easy getting to the title, then two sentences later they act like anyone could have won it. 🤷

Generally me, I don't get downplaying someone's success just because they're driving a great car. If we go by that logic, we should wipe out all of Vettel's titles at Red Bull Racing, erase Alonso's wins in that dominant R25, and maybe even toss Michael's titles at Ferrari too? If we're talking about pure dominance, Mercedes pulled in 44% more points in the constructors' standings during their peak season than the runner-up. In 2002, Ferrari beat the field by 59%.

Comparing those eras is literally like comparing apples to oranges...
The hybrid era...
Mercedes 1-2 = 43 points
Red Bull Racing 3-4 = 27 points
Difference: 37.29%

The Ferrari era...
Ferrari 1-2 = 16 points
Williams 3-4 = 7 points
Difference: 56.25% 🙂

So that famous 44% for Mercedes is actually even bigger than Ferrari's 59% when you look at it this way. 😉
You're forgetting that the point gap was massive back then, and a win was worth way more relatively speaking than it is today. 😉

Just for comparison, a win was 10 points vs. 6th place being 1 point (so 10 times more, and 7th place didn't even score).
Nowadays, 6th place gets you 8 points, so the math would be the same as if a win today earned 80 points...
Just imagine how huge the gap would look if Lujo got 80 points for every win...

As for Hamilton and the "dominance" thing, he isn't the issue here.
If anything, he brought the whole team to his side; they're completely dialed in to him, from top to bottom.
What actually bugs me is all the nonsense about his battles with Bottas, that dangerous Alfa Romeo, and all that other rubbish...
It's obvious that on a good day, nobody could even get close to him.

The other issue is how the FIA often looks the other way regarding Mercedes. Honestly, there's no need for either—Hamilton is plenty skilled enough to beat Bottas without any of Toto's interference, and Mercedes is a strong enough crew to win without any special treatment.

You literally said asphalt runoff zones on Grade 1 tracks are there for amateurs. Well, let me tell you—amateurs go to Sedona. And I'm talking about the same kind of amateurs who live near Imola, Misano, or Adria.

There's no point arguing with you. You're giving me a headache. You're exhausting. Just drop it already.

Generally me, I find this dismissal of someone's success just because they're driving a superior car to be completely nonsensical. If we follow that logic, we might as well erase all of Vettel's titles at Red Bull Racing, wipe away Alonso's wins in that dominant R25, or just pretend Michael didn't win anything at Ferrari. If we're going to talk about pure dominance, let's look at the numbers: in their most dominant season, Mercedes pulled in 44% more points in the Constructors' Championship than the runner-up. In 2002, Ferrari outscored the next team by 59%.

Alonso's R25 was anything but dominant. Sure, they had an early advantage, but McLaren caught up to them throughout the season—in fact, McLaren was often faster in terms of raw pace, they were just plagued by unreliability. Unlike the Renault, which ran like a Swiss watch (at least the one Alonso was driving).

It’s just like back in the day in soccer, back in '92 when goalies could actually kick the ball and then grab it with their hands. Then they changed the rules later and suddenly you can't do that anymore. Same deal with this corner. It's pretty pointless bringing up examples from other races or different seasons when the rules and the instructions weren't even the same back then. Max accepted the loss, Christian Horner accepted the loss, Helmut Marko accepted the loss. But somehow, you just can't...

Hey, I can accept it too. It’s just... I'm frustrated with the FIA. Honestly. Though I did get told I shouldn't let it get to me because this was basically a favor for a favor. See, the FIA gave Red Bull Racing the engine freeze, and in exchange, they expect Red Bull Racing to throw a race or something. Formula 1 is all about politics...

Still, Max has a fast car—even Mercedes admits that—and with budget caps in place, it’s going to be a real struggle for Mercedes to catch up.

But that was last year.
I don't follow you.
Max and Red Bull Racing made mistakes during the race.

It was inconsistent, and honestly, the stewards were pretty sloppy, but at the exact moment Max overtook, they handled it wrong.

Regarding Hamilton, I assume his overtake involving all four off-track excursions was perfectly legal, and I suspect he didn't receive a five-second penalty. 😁

A penalty only occurs if someone overtakes Hamilton. In reality, Red Bull Racing didn't receive a penalty; they simply chose to let Hamilton pass on their own initiative. I have a feeling Max had enough of a gap to pull away by more than five seconds before the finish, but Red Bull Racing decided to play it fair against a dirty Mercedes and a protected Hamilton.

That damn Sebastian Vettel gets hit with a penalty because of Nikita Mazepin, even though he’s completely innocent. He didn't even have a chance to react.

A penalty only happens if someone overtakes Hamilton—like Red Bull Racing did. And from what I know, he didn't actually get penalized; they just voluntarily let him through. I have a feeling Max had enough of a gap to pull more than 5 seconds ahead by the end, but Red Bull decided to play it fair against a "dirty" Mercedes and a protected Hamilton.

Poor Vettel getting stuck with a penalty because of Nikita Mazepin... wasn't even his fault, he couldn't even react in time.

He got an order from Race Control via RB. And word is, the penalty would have been 10 seconds anyway.
