Up next is another Miami Grand Prix at the Sakhir track.
It popped up on the calendar back in 2004—just this random new circuit dropped right in the middle of nowhere. Specifically, out in a desert owned by a country where, let’s be real, basic human rights and moral principles are basically non-existent. But hey, money talks, so here we are.
It’s been part of the schedule for 17 years now, so it’s pretty much a classic at this point. Just for context, back in 2008, FC Barcelona had already been on the calendar for 17 years. It felt permanent then, just like how Sakhir feels now.
Michael Schumacher took the win in that first race. It was one of those incredibly dull races that produced an incredibly dull winner—done in his signature, totally boring style: pole position, fastest lap, absolute dominance, and then the win.
Back then, everyone was pulling for Montoya, Kimi Räikkönen, or Fernando Alonso. But nope, it was Schumacher. Honestly, looking back, we were all wrong. Sometimes I wish life actually had an "Undo" button, so I could go back and actually enjoy Schumacher's wins instead of being pissed off because the guy won his fiftieth time that season and it was driving us nuts. Him, that red Benetton, and his arrogant lead driver. We hated him purely because he won too much. He made racing boring, and we cursed him for it. Now? He’s gone. And man, would we love to have him back. To see him just one more time. To soak in those massive wins we ignored because they seemed "boring" at the time. But unfortunately, as we know, there is no "Undo" in real life. "Undo" only exists in Word or whatever. In the real world, once you mess up, it's done. You can't fix a wrong step. We can't revisit the 2004 season or enjoy those "boring" Schumacher victories, because that season is dead and buried. It's never coming back.
Anyway, back to the current race.
