DVD burner/player issues

Need some help here
My DVD drive handles retail audio CDs just fine, but whenever I try to run a burned data DVD, it’s a total disaster. It just spins and spins, grinding away at nothing... Windows 10
Could someone please explain this in plain English?

Maybe try a different DVD, or even a third one. If none of them work, I guess the DVD laser might be shot—there are actually two separate lasers in there, one for CDs and another specifically for DVDs.
