Is this really how a moderator is allowed to talk to people? Seriously, major props to whoever decided this guy belongs in charge here. I’ve been slapped with warnings and even full bans for way less than this, which honestly makes most of us just bite our tongues to stay out of trouble. But apparently, a moderator can just act like he's running a dive bar in the middle of nowhere?

Just get him out of here... Ugh...

Everything they said hits the mark. Honestly, whoever voiced those points, I don't see anything scandalous about it at all.

In short, he wasn't even addressing you as a person; he was just attacking your MO on this forum, and honestly, he missed the mark by a mile.

Maria Fowler39 said:They weren't even attacking you personally, just your OP on the forum, and man, they really went for the throat there.

Oh, please. So, does moderation only apply when someone disagrees with an opinion, rather than actually policing insults and stuff? Good to know.

Because when I shared a very specific take on the school system—which wasn't even aimed at any particular moderator, specifically you—you basically gave me the cold shoulder and handed out warnings for every single post. Then later, you were sliding into my DMs acting all sweet, like, "I can't believe it, things are different with you, honey, etc." It was such a trip.

By the way, does this mean I'm allowed to talk to people using that kind of language too, or are mods just exempt from being polite?

And when I shared a very specific take on the education system that didn't happen to align with a certain moderator—specifically you—you basically messed with me and slapped me with a warning for every single post. Then later, you're sliding into DMs acting all sweet, like, "Oh, I can't believe it, I guess things are different with you," blah blah blah.

By the way, does this mean I'm allowed to talk to others using that kind of language, or are mods just exempt from being rude?

Look, I'm not a mod.
In our private messages, I was trying to advise you on how to actually handle the issue, because if we discussed it here, the whole thread would have devolved into nonsense. You turned that down, probably because it's easier to generalize everything and throw everyone into the same bucket than to actually deal with the person causing the trouble. It's your call, though. Your right.
It isn't a "dictionary," it's a lexicon.😉

I tried to give you some advice in our private messages on how to actually fix things, mostly because if we kept talking about this here, the whole thread would just spiral into random nonsense. But you shot that down. I guess it’s easier to just make broad generalizations and lump everyone into one big group instead of dealing with the actual person causing the headache. Hey, it's your call, though. Totally your right.

It's not a dictionary, it's a lexicon😉

Well, you were acting like one. And you basically admitted the issue is real, but somehow I'm still being held hostage by your opinion. And no, I didn't get flagged for generalizing; I got flagged for having a specific stance. Call it whatever kind of camouflage you want.

Anyway, are you seriously feeling that proud of yourself for correcting my grammar? Didn't the mods warn other people not to do that? What on earth is wrong with you? Or is this just petty for the sake of being petty?

Anyway, are you actually feeling proud of yourself for correcting my grammar? Haven't the mods warned others not to do that? Is this some kind of grand cosmic joke? Or just pure pettiness?

Look, I don't really care if I get a warning for it. I just wanted to point out that even the self-proclaimed experts—those who think they know everything about a profession they aren't even in—can slip up. That’s what KLCCLK was trying to show you, but I guess you're too busy tearing people down to actually process what he wrote.

Just so we're clear, the colleague on that PDF isn't a moderator, if that matters at all in this conversation.

I don't really see this being something that warrants a sanction. You've got a moderator from one subforum jumping into a discussion on another just like any other regular user would. If I were handing out warnings for posts like this, I’d have issued hundreds of them by now.

Charles Fox10 said:For those of you following this thread, let me clarify one thing: the colleague mentioned in that PDF holds no moderator status, should that distinction be of any consequence to the current debate.

It is a matter of character rather than authority... or perhaps more accurately, a question of conduct. One's fundamental disposition matters far more than any official title they might hold.
To err is human. It is a fundamental truth, though one that most people seem determined to ignore in their pursuit of perceived perfection. We stumble, we miscalculate, and we fail—not because we lack intention, but because we are inherently flawed creatures. To expect anything less from the human condition is, quite frankly, a fool's errand. If the moderator actually stepped in and managed this thread properly, she might finally get a moment of peace.
Based on what we have just witnessed... Laura Sanchez64 She wrote it.
Moderator KLCCLK It seems he has lost any remaining capacity for nuance or empathy. He refuses to entertain a single dissenting perspective, choosing instead to frame everything that contradicts his own worldview as a moral failing. It is quite predictable, really.
That does not necessarily follow. KLCCLK It isn't particularly good; it has simply devolved into an automated process. And the trouble with automation is that when it fails, it fails spectacularly.
If this has become the primary objective of the moderation team—if they have embraced the distortion of perception simply because it gives them a sense of purpose, provides a semblance of "work," and allows them to feel indispensable without making it personal—then that is exactly what it is. Laura Sanchez64 I have written it.

So, let me get this straight: are we actually suggesting that "moderation" refers to whether one aligns or disagrees with a particular viewpoint, rather than the actual task of policing insults and maintaining basic decorum? It seems a rather peculiar way to define the role.

You aren't KLCCLK.
He manufactured a KLCCLK dispute out of thin air, and frankly, he did it poorly.
It falls under what you people call... to put it mildly... jumping the gun—10 points 😁, if not having thinly veiled intentions
. Furthermore, you’ve indirectly admitted that this is textbook grounds for a ban KLCCLK, yet you're choosing to think like a rational human being, which is a positive trait... but unfortunately, that isn't how your rules work
. Still, it provides some "life" to the platform, provided you don't cling to those regulations like a drunk clinging to a lamppost
. The fundamental issue here is that you refuse to see t h e t r u t h
.

Honestly, I’ve been flagged for way less than this, so I'm definitely not talking about you. Plenty of other people on here have been chewed out for much smaller things.

I truly couldn't care less what anyone thinks of me—I'm not sitting here judging everyone else either, so that's not the point. Though, Maria Fowler39 jumped on that angle immediately. The thing is, because of all the warnings and bans over tiny little things (basically just disagreeing with a mod's take, which usually gets labeled as trolling—I actually mentioned this to your former colleague once), most of us feel like we're walking on eggshells. We're constantly trying to play nice. So, yeah, it's pretty frustrating when a mod is allowed to act in a way that would get anyone else a strike.

If that isn't a double standard, then I don't know what is.

Laura Sanchez64 said:I got slapped down for way less than that—not from you, specifically. And trust me, plenty of other people on this board have taken a much harder hit for much smaller things.

I honestly couldn't care less what anyone thinks about me—I have plenty of my own thoughts about others, but that’s beside the point. Though, Maria Fowler39 was quick enough to jump on that particular bandwagon. The reality is, between the warnings and the bans over trivialities—which usually just means disagreeing with a moderator's specific take, which, by the way, I already pointed out to your former colleague—most of us are walking on eggshells here, trying our best to play nice. It’s no wonder I lose my cool when you see a mod acting however they want, while everyone else gets flagged for doing the exact same thing.

If that isn't the definition of a double standard, I honestly don't know what is.

So, what exactly is this double standard—if I don't step in when posts like that pop up on this subforum? If someone really starts pushing it and gets too tedious with their rambling, I’ll just wipe the post and hand out a minor warning.

Honestly, I don’t see much point in dragging this discussion out any further—it feels like we're just circling the drain at this point. Just keep writing and call it a day.

Alright. If I tell someone they’re acting like an idiot or just talking nonsense and end up getting smacked for it, I’m definitely using your "explanation" as my excuse.

Thanks a million. 🙂

You really have to look at the bigger picture here. Some of our community guidelines are pretty strict, while others give us a little more breathing room to be flexible with the criteria. It all comes down to context—like, what’s actually happening in the thread right now? Is this just one isolated incident, or is someone basically setting the whole board on fire? Plus, there's the human element to consider; if someone is generally a constructive member of the community and they just get pushed into a corner or provoked, I think it’s fair to give them a bit of grace. On the flip side, when someone walks in with the sole intention of being a troll and stirring up trouble, that's a completely different story.
