Can't update OS on my tablet

Help me out here!!
I'm still just a high schooler, basically just starting to scratch the surface of the whole computer science and software world. So, I've got this Modec 1002. tablet, right? But when I hit the power button, it just sits there staring at me with the Modec logo on the screen and... nothing else. Zilch. I tried messing around with the volume buttons and the power button, trying to trigger that factory reset thing—you know, the recovery mode—but it just won't cooperate. It just shuts itself off, restarts, and goes right back to that same old Modec logo. I even handed it off to a buddy of mine who knows his way around tech a bit better than I do, but even he was stumped. He mentioned that we really need to break into the system menu to run a factory reset, or maybe try flashing the factory firmware/stock ROM, but he can't quite figure out how to get into the guts of the device to make that happen.
I'm really hoping I explained my dilemma clearly enough for those of you who are actual pros and have been living and breathing this tech stuff for years. If anyone out there has some wisdom or a fix for this, I would seriously appreciate the help.

If that doesn't work, just take it to a repair shop. If it's a hardware issue—which, let's face it, it probably is—you'll want that warranty coverage.
Honestly, though, it's usually not worth the headache to fix these things.

Man, if you don't have a warranty, just bite the bullet and get a new one. Something likely just gave out...
