PC build recommendations under $300

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance on upgrading my current rig, specifically to get better performance in games. I'm trying to run things like PUBG, but right now, it won't even launch 😁. My budget for a GPU and RAM upgrade is roughly $300.

Here’s what I’m working with at the moment:
Intel Core i5- 4460 3.2GHz
4gb DDR3 Kingston HyperX Fury
Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2gb
The motherboard is an Asrock h81m-dgs

It’s nothing fancy, but honestly, it did its job until recently. I’d like to squeeze a bit more life out of this machine before I commit to building a completely new system, which just isn't in the cards for me right now.

It’s a pretty decent setup, honestly. Even if you went out and bought something new right now, you probably wouldn't see a massive difference, so don't sweat it too much.

The issue is that crypto miners basically wiped out the GPU market, so there's a shortage. It's hard to find those mid-range cards like an RX470 or 570 that actually fit a reasonable budget.

The best thing you can realistically grab at the moment is a 1050 Ti, but even then, it isn't a huge leap over the 750 Ti. Plus, your CPU could definitely handle a bit more muscle...

If I were you, I'd just pick up an extra 8GB of RAM to bring your total to 12GB. See how games run after that. I think PUBG lists 6GB as a minimum requirement, so bumping up the RAM might actually get it playable for you.

The GTX 1060 3GB and an extra 4GB of RAM should hold up for her.
It’s nothing legendary, sure, but it definitely punches above the 1050Ti and is easily the best move you can make right now.

True, I totally blanked on the gtx 1060 3gb. And honestly, they’re pretty hard to come by these days, if you can even find a decent one.

Is it the exact same model? You didn't mention the frequency... it’s probably best if the modules match perfectly. 😉

Most of the time, even if the modules aren't an exact match, you'll be fine. Just grab it through the online store—that way you can always send it back within two weeks if the RAM gives you any trouble.

I wouldn't touch a 1060 with only 3GB of VRAM if I were you. Honestly, even in some modern titles, that’s just not enough, and from what I've been seeing online, even for that specific game you mentioned, more VRAM is definitely better. I guess a 1060 with 6GB would be a much smarter move, even though I realize it’s going to cost you a bit more.
