There is a distinction here between a constructor and a designer that some of you seem to be missing entirely.
Murray, for instance, mastered both roles. On the other hand, Newey couldn't build a chair to sit on, let alone an F1 car; he can design a chassis and pass his concepts off to a constructor, if you follow my drift.
I have no idea why everyone is bowing down to this Newey fellow, considering the man hasn't actually invented anything of substance in his entire career.

I’m saying it again: to him, Gordon Murray, Colin Chapman, and Roy are absolute legends. Total icons.

Yeah, yeah, whatever. Blah, blah, blah. 🀦

Let's be clear: absolutely not. Not even close. In fact, Adrian Newey has about 50% more wins than Rory Quote. 🀦

No, you're just being...
Whether someone is a legend or just a glorified copycat is one thing, but let's be real: when it comes to championships and total wins, Adrian Newey is in a league of his own.
None of those guys you're bringing up can even hold a candle to him.

You can struggle all you want, but what you just wrote makes absolutely zero sense.

It is clear and loud: NO, not even close. In fact, Adrian Newey has roughly 50% more wins than Rory 🀦...

Please, why would we just credit all those McLaren and Williams wins to Adrian Newey alone? Did Patrick Head have nothing to do with Williams? Was Neal Oatley not involved with McLaren? Let’s just dump everything onto Newey simply because he was an aerodynamicist and designer! No, that won't fly. He was only truly the undisputed boss during his time at Red Bull.

Furthermore, you only attribute Ferrari successes to Rory? Come on, what about Benetton?
Generally speaking, it is unfair to heap everything onto Newey just because he gets the most media exposure and pops up everywhere like Kamala Harris jumping out of a deli container. Give me a break.

Everyone I mentioned is a more complete individual in F1β€”Murray, Chapman, Roary, and so on.
For heaven's sake, Neal Oatley was the Chef Designer at McLaren until 2003, not Newey, yet you've credited all those achievements to Newey quite conveniently.

How many more unfairly overlooked designers must I list? And it isn't accurate to say Newey has 150 wins; if we used that logic, plenty of others would have them too, if you understand my point.

Good grief, what kind of top designer just copy-pasted Simone Rest and now acts like a superstar?

What I am getting at is this: if you tell Newey that he needs to turn his sketches into tangible physical parts integrated with other components, he'd probably lose his mind. That is exactly what Murray and Chapman did, to a certain extent, as did Roary.

Mario, you didn't even start this argument right. You didn't go with "Newey isn't the most successful engineer" or "he's not the best boss" or "he doesn't have the most genius design solutions." No, you went with "Newey isn't the most successful designer," which is just wrong because he absolutely is. Period. β˜•

Go ahead, exhaust yourself. Talk all the nonsense you want about how Newey is a terrible driver, how he can't change a tire, can't brew a cup of coffee, or couldn't swap a battery if his life depended on it...
but none of that changes the fact that you were rambling about how some non-existent Roy has more wins than Newey. πŸ™‚

If you’re really curious about who the greatest designer out there actually is, I suppose you should start by asking yourself which Formula 1 car stands as the absolute GOAT. Once you've settled on that, just track down the genius behind its engineering and aesthetic design.

As for me, I don't think any single Goldman Sachs car would even crack my personal top five.

Being the best designer and being the most successful designer aren't the same thing...

It’s just like debating titles. We could sit here all day arguing whether Palmer or Alonsoβ€”or whoever elseβ€”is the greatest Formula 1 driver to ever live...
but the reality is they've racked up the wins, the podiums, and the championships. When it comes to pure success, they sit right behind the legends, and there's no arguing with the math.

It’s just like when we argue about sportsβ€”we could go on forever debating whether it’s Palmer, Alonso, or whoever else is considered the greatest NFL player of all time...
but the reality is they’ve racked up the wins, the podiums, and the championships, and if they sit behind certain other players in terms of pure success, there isn't much anyone can do to change those numbers...
