I'm not entirely sure which sub this belongs in, so I'll just leave it here.

Does anyone know if a tiny fragment of mechanical pencil lead lodged under the skin between my thumb and index finger could cause any actual health issues? There’s a small blackish-yellow spot right there—just a little piece of lead from back in elementary school that somehow ended up embedded in my skin. No, the pencil didn't puncture me; I managed to prick myself manually 🤣

Nah. Given enough time, it’ll likely just bubble up to the surface on its own.

I actually dealt with something similar for about six or seven years—had this thing embedded right in the side of my thumb. I was out at the pool one afternoon when I noticed a tiny little tip poking through the skin, so I gave it a bit of a squeeze, and the whole damn thing just popped right out. Honestly, I can still vividly recall the color of it, though there wasn't anything left underneath once it was gone.

Look, fundamentally speaking, if you haven't seen any signs of infection within a few days of getting punctured and the wound has closed up, you really shouldn't be losing sleep over it. Pencil lead is just a mixture of clay and graphite, so it doesn't release any toxic compounds into your system, and even those old-school ones that might have had traces of zinc or lead likely wouldn't cause any real damage given how minuscule the amount is.
