Is this just me, or is this actually normal?

And it’s not just my connection either, because I checked www.isitdownrightnow.com and it confirmed it.
It usually happens right in the middle of a heated debate when I've typed out an absolute novel of a response and then can't post because the site just crashed.

I only recently became active on the forum, and honestly, I can't believe how often it goes down.

Yeah. In this country, it’s perfectly standard.
Just like so many other things here that make absolutely zero sense.

You might just have to accept it.

I honestly can't say for certain if my intuition is spot on here.

But look, if you haven't already noticed, this entire community has grown absolutely massive in terms of the sheer volume of discussion threads, the number of individual posts, and the total user base we have here.

On top of that, they’ve actually gone ahead and disabled the ability to search through previous posts.

My personal theory is that they are simply running out of server capacity, and that is precisely why we are seeing all these constant technical glitches and site crashes.

It seriously took me ten whole minutes just to drop a single comment on the football thread 🙏. I swear, the site went offline three different times while I was trying to type. I barely managed to get this thing to actually post 🙏 🤦

I’ve also gotta complain about how this forum is set up. It’s honestly a mess—super overcomplicated and split into hundreds of subforums, most of which are just inactive and basically ghost towns.
For instance, look at Culture & Entertainment > TV (which is broken down into): Series, Unaired US and UK, Soaps, Unaired (other series), Reality TV, and Big Brother.
The whole categorization feels totally illogical, especially since they gave Big Brother its own dedicated subforum when there’s already a "Reality TV" section right there.
And it gets weirder: the "Big Brother" subforum is split into one single chat thread, one "who is your favorite tenant" thread, and then EVERY SINGLE TENANT gets their own individual thread!!!
It goes without saying that the whole section is dead because people struggle just to find where to post, and then they realize they can't even talk freely because their posts get deleted or moved around just to fit this ridiculous, convoluted structure. Nobody has the patience for that kind of stuff.

You can't write anything without some moderator with a massive ego swooping in to move your reply to what they deem the "appropriate" topic.
Just last week, I posted in Information Technology > Internet > Web about how the American version of YouTube shows Mexican videos in the recommendations.
Some anonymous moderator popped up immediately and moved my thread to a chat thread, and I haven't heard a peep in over a week because that damn chat thread is inactive—there's nobody actually hanging out there.
I really don't get this level of control freaking.

The forum crashed again!!!
Right as I was typing this up, too.

Can one of the admins please tell me what's going on here?
Because if this is going to be a regular thing, we might as well say our goodbyes now.

Yeah. Reddit is pretty much dead. And honestly? It’s never gonna be anything more than what it is right now.

Just get used to it. Move on. The internet is huge anyway... 😉

and some nameless moderator immediately moved my thread over to a chat thread. It's been over a week and I haven't seen a single response because that damn chat thread is inactive—there's absolutely nobody hanging out there.

Totally with you on that.
I got hassled like that myself over in the mobile phone forum.
They’ve got sections for phone comparisons, Android, and so on, plus a separate thread for every single device.
So, you're looking for a phone, right? Usually, you're just comparing a couple of models, but once you finally decide which one you want and you're already deep in conversation with people, you have to jump over to a completely different thread specifically for that one model just to ask a quick question about it.

The site hangs on me sometimes too, and occasionally it takes forever just to load.
The absolute worst thing that's happened to me so far was when the page just threw an error right as I was finishing up a comment.
By the time the page finally loaded again, my comment was just gone. Vanished.
And then what? You write it all over again? If it's a long post, what are the odds you'll even remember exactly how you phrased everything...

There have even been days where the site just wouldn't open at all for an hour or two..

Another reason why "trolling" penalties suck
There’s such a massive need to actually define what trolling is. It feels like every moderator just grabs that excuse to penalize anyone whose opinion they don't personally like. It happens way too often on a personal level.

Here’s a little experiment I ran:
Over in the "Culture & Entertainment" section -> "TV" -> "Big Brother" section, specifically in the "Big Brother chat" thread, I posted: "How can you guys even watch this trash show?" and boom—I got hit with a 35-point penalty for "trolling."
Technically, that isn't even trolling, but whatever. The point is that moderators use "trolling" as this huge, undefined umbrella term to justify basically anything, often using it to push censorship or just act on a whim.

At the end of the day, I was just sharing my thoughts. If someone couldn't handle my response, well, good grief... democracy is supposed to allow us to have opinions, and my opinion is that Big Brother is a total garbage show.

Robin Clark said:plus there's that whole "trolling" penalty too
There really needs to be a clear-cut definition of what actually counts as trolling—because honestly, from what I can see, moderators seem to pull that card whenever they just don't like someone's take, and quite often, it feels pretty personal.

Here’s an example of how I tested the waters:
Over in the "Entertainment & Culture" section -> "TV Shows" -> "Big Brother" section... specifically in the "Big Brother Chat" thread, I posted something along the lines of, "How can you guys even watch this garbage show?" and boom—hit with a 35-point penalty for "trolling."
Technically, that isn't even trolling, but whatever—the point is that mods are using "trolling" as this massive, undefined umbrella term to basically censor people and do whatever they want.

At the end of the day, I was just stating my opinion. If someone can't handle my response, well, good grief—democracy is supposed to allow for different viewpoints, and my viewpoint is that Big Brother is a total joke.

I gotta say, I'm totally with you on this one.
It's only happened to me once, but even then, it felt super shady—if I remember correctly, it was because I was asking questions about religion in a thread meant for religious discussion.

Look, just being honest here—if I were running the show as a moderator, I’d probably give myself a little slap on the wrist for that Big Brother comment. Not because I was actually trolling, but because I definitely sparked a bit of a flame war.
I’m talking a symbolic penalty, maybe just a 5-point deduction, just to make me think twice next time. Those kinds of replies can really stir the pot, especially with those hardcore reality TV fans who live for the drama in their group chats.
The problem is, some moderators seem pretty lazy. If they see something they don't like, they just throw the "trolling" label around, even though I bet half of them don't even know what that actually means.
They don't bother looking at the context of a post or checking a user's history. If someone is a known troublemaker, sure, you can assume they're trying to start a fight. But if someone has a totally clean record, like I do, a light touch would be much better to de-escalate things.
Instead, the mods here aren't cooling things down; they're actually making the fire bigger with all that laziness and bias.

2+2=3, you've been hanging around this forum since 2011, and from what I can see, you still haven't bothered to figure out how things actually work around here.
Look, maybe just do us all a favor and head straight to the top of the page to read the rules, because if you keep ignoring them whenever you feel like it, you're probably going to end up with a permanent ban, which would be a real shame, I guess.

As for everyone else, if you think you have something to say about the moderation, go ahead and take it to the complaint department. Spreading your grievances all over the different threads is going to get you penalized.
I'm closing this thread now.
