I get it—because of how this place is run, you can't even bring up this topic without half the users catching bans for criticizing the mods. Political correctness is everywhere these days, especially on forums like this where everyone hides behind anonymity to clash. The second you try to compare this site to any other platform, the moderators start handing out penalties.

Still, I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this is one of the biggest issues facing the world right now. I'm sure plenty of people here have thoughts on it.

The question is actually pretty simple: how do you even start a thread like this without breaking the rules?

Kudos to the idea! 👍

I'm definitely interested in this topic too...

Honestly, I don't think political correctness can be tied to just one ideology—left or right—which is kind of a "convenient loophole"... assuming people actually keep that in mind during debates.
Even though it's mostly seen as the "liberal mainstream" today, back in the early '50s in the US, being politically correct meant avoiding anything that sounded even remotely like the left—you know, dodging "communist propaganda."
Before that, it used to mark what was considered "orthodox" Stalinism.

So, to me, it looks like nothing more than a list of ideological taboos set by the ruling elite. Anything outside those lines gets branded as "populism," at the very least.

PDF - close to politics

Topic: Political correctness - general discussion.

We'll see how things unfold...

Thanks for the reply.

I'll start a thread once I actually have a second to write a decent intro, but if anyone else is feeling inspired, go ahead and post before I do.

"Political correctness" is such a broad term...
For instance, what passes as being polite on one American forum might not fly at all on another.

We have people here from all over the States, and we don't all share the same definitions. Who actually gets to decide what counts as "correct" or not?

If this stays strictly within the bounds of the PDF platform, that's fine by me.
I just don't want it bleeding into the real world. If that happens, I'm definitely against it...😁

Thread Title: Political correctness - general discussion.

We'll just have to wait and see how things play out.

It’s a great idea... though I think it’s a bit incomplete. From what I understand, you aren't allowed to comment on moderation over there either. 🤷

On the flip side, this specific PDF actually allows us to discuss moderation, even if we still can't dive into politics (or anything else that already has its own dedicated thread).

So, what's missing here is a clear statement from the admin team saying they'll make an exception for this topic—not by breaking the rules, per se, but by bending them slightly when it comes to discussing moderation. 😉

No, we aren't bending any rules here. If anyone attempts to exploit the general discussion on political correctness as a loophole to engage in behavior that is strictly prohibited elsewhere on this forum, neither that individual nor the thread itself will be tolerated. If one intends to engage in a principled debate regarding political correctness, then by all means, come prepared with actual knowledge and substantive arguments. However, if someone is merely attempting to use this topic as a veil to lecture others on religion, sexual orientation, or faith, they would be wise not to bother. In this thread, as in every other, the standard community guidelines remain fully in effect. Should it become clear that maintaining order is impossible, the thread will simply be closed.

If someone tries to hijack the general discussion on political correctness just to get away with things they normally wouldn't be allowed to do on this forum, neither that person nor the thread will fare well. So, if you want to discuss theoretically what political correctness means, go ahead—just come prepared with actual knowledge and solid arguments. But if someone thinks they can use this as a sneaky way to start debating moderation, religion, or LGBTQ+ issues... honestly, don't even bother. All the usual forum rules apply to this topic just like any other. If we find we can't keep it civil, we'll just close the thread.

When I used the word "bending," I was specifically talking about having a theoretical conversation regarding how we handle moderation.

I wasn't suggesting people use it to air specific grievances (or try to single out individual moderators), because obviously, that's not what that space is for.

In principle, "in principle" means exactly what it says. If we are talking about this specific forum, then it isn't really "in principle." This forum is merely a drop in the bucket compared to all the other forums out there, which are themselves just a tiny fraction of the vast ocean of online communication. Let me be perfectly clear: this thread will not be about the moderation of this forum. If you were hoping to start a discussion on that topic, the answer is no; such a thread cannot be opened. We have hosted similar discussions before, and they invariably devolve into nothing more than dumping grounds for baseless attempts to lynch the moderators or contest every single administrative decision that happens to rub someone the wrong way. No, thank you.

William Bennett53 said:"In principle" means "in principle." If we're talking about this specific forum, it isn't just "in principle." This forum is a tiny drop in the ocean of all forums, and forums themselves are just a drop in the ocean of online communication. Let me be crystal clear here—this thread won't be about how we moderate this place. If you're looking for a platform to vent about moderation, the answer is no, you can't open a topic for that. We've had threads like this before, and they always turn into instant dumping grounds for mindless attempts to lynch the mods or argue against every single decision someone happens to dislike. So, no thanks.

So, if I’m following this correctly—and trust me, I am *very* interested in where this is going... basically, it is strictly forbidden on this forum to comment on how any sub-forum is moderated? There's zero room to express an opinion on how things are run, even by the very people who actually make this place function and exist—the users themselves? You're essentially telling us that users have absolutely no right to critique moderator decisions. In other words, whatever the mods decide, it's final and unchallengeable—kind of like those old-school, one-party authoritarian regimes from history books. Like, what you're handed is the law. Hypothetically speaking—if they woke up tomorrow and decided everyone had to write exclusively in neon green font, we aren't allowed to question that either?

I’m dying to know which other media outlet or what kind of "democratic" country in the world operates under this kind of reign of terror, where you aren't allowed to freely criticize actions and where nothing can ever be contested.

Feel free to offer your commentary or critiques regarding the moderator decisions; this entire PDF serves as the foundation for that process. All that is required is that any criticism remains focused, documented, and properly argued. To be clear: we aren't looking for random links or baseless accusations—we want legitimate grievances. Allowing any complaint that lacks substance would be fundamentally unfair; if one can simply attack anyone without providing proof, then it ceases to be a grievance at all. It would be reminiscent of the old days under totalitarian rule.
I am relieved we have clarified that the thread title is misleading. It is quite obvious the intention here isn't to debate political correctness, but rather to carve out a space to bypass the standard site rules and critique the moderation team.
