At the end of the day, it feels like the starting grid has very little to do with the actual qualifying results.

Because being a tenth and a half slower in the final sector isn't really "slowing down" in any meaningful sense.

It seems the final verdict remains unwritten. Sebastian Vettel has filed a formal protest with the stewards, claiming he was impeded by Fernando Alonso during Q3.
I find it somewhat perplexing that Sebastian Vettel suggested there was no issue simply because the incident occurred within a yellow flag zone. If my memory serves me correctly, Turn 16 is the chicane area, isn't it? If that is the case, there shouldn't have even been any yellow flags flying in that specific section.

Everyone improved their times significantly in Q3 compared to Q2. Based on his Q2 pace, Alonso would have started 4th eventually.
