I won't linger too long; I think I need to address a few specific points here.

Richard Nelson84 said:Point 4 is really the only contentious one. But looking at the context, it’s clear those labels mentioned in that section aren't directed at you, so they shouldn't result in a ban. The only thing I take issue with in that part of the post is this hey Sarah Stewart72 bit, because he clearly wrote that just to get under your skin, though it isn't technically against the rules.

Exactly. Those "labels" weren't meant for Sarah Stewart72, and I ended that thought with a cheeky hey Sarah Stewart72 just to be provocative.

The person in question doesn't seem to realize that her previous insinuation—where she attacked "my imagination"—was incredibly insulting.

This isn't the first time she's done this, and I'm certainly not the only one she's targeted.

Anyone else with half as much self-control as I have would have gone after her verbally for that.

Just because you might want to tear him apart doesn't mean it'll go unpunished.

And that is precisely where the core of the problem lies. Her biggest struggle is her inability to insult someone "properly." In other words, she's worried about being penalized if she actually attacks her interlocutor. So instead, she resorts to the lowest level of provocation, often crossing the line with insinuations that she presents as facts, labeling people as some sort of manic individual. She does this constantly.

Finally, I don't think this is about the post you linked, but rather some private feud between you two. If you read the posts in this thread, it's obvious you two just can't see eye to eye.But I don't really care. If you can't resolve your disagreements, just use the ignore button. Or learn that people aren't always going to agree with you.

It really isn't; at least not from my end. I don't know her, nor have I ever had a private conversation with her.

It’s just a repeating cycle. Argument; disagreement; insults; playing the victim; argument; disagreement; insults; playing the victim...

Sometimes she even skips the first two steps entirely...

I won't dwell on it too much...

Since she was the one who opened this thread, I'd like to take this opportunity to ask that we consider her entire history here on Microsoft.

casualcanyon3 isn't a problematic user at all (which is something that definitely cannot be said about Sarah Stewart72), and I have never once seen casualcanyon3 personally insult anyone. I mean, I haven't seen it...

If she is capable of provoking a conflict with someone like casualcanyon3, who I find to be a fairly peaceable person whose debates rarely escalate into fights, then I think there isn't much more I need to say.

And yeah... It's fine to butt heads. It happens to everyone, and it's perfectly normal. The problem arises when a wolf enters the pack and starts acting that way toward everyone; or at least, most of them.

casualcanyon3 said:You call that a high-quality debate? She twisted my words, attacked my character, and when I tried to clarify what I actually meant, she just doubled down. She even tried to provoke me by claiming I have some weird scale for labeling people! That wasn't a fair or productive discussion. And yeah, once she pushed my buttons, I definitely snapped back a bit harder.

If you set aside the part where things turned into a personal vendetta, the actual debate was fine. It wasn't much different from any other topic here. You both held your ground and defended your views as best as you could.

casualcanyon3 said:Look, I’m not here to pick fights. If someone wants to give me a warning or a ban, go ahead—it won't break me. All I'll say is that in all my years on this forum, I have NEVER complained about another member, nor have I ever filed a report on anyone. Never!

I’ll be giving this user a very wide berth from now on.

I don't get this at all. I see this attitude on Microsoft all the time. As soon as someone shows up with an opposing opinion, it almost always ends up exactly like this.

Nothing makes me happier than debating people who disagree with me. But hey, it's your right to avoid talking to people you don't vibe with, so feel free to do that.

Richard Nelson84, I’m honestly not sure what the standard etiquette is here on the forum or over at Microsoft, but there is a massive distinction between a healthy debate between two people with opposing views and a situation where someone simply spends every single post labeling their opponent and shouting down everything they say just to "correct" a perceived misunderstanding. If I state, for instance, that something doesn't actually bother me—that I'm merely discussing it—and yet she persists in insisting that it *does* bother me, ignoring my explanations time and again, while simultaneously accusing me of categorizing people on some arbitrary scale or being overly objective, then we aren't having a constructive conversation. We aren't even debating ideas anymore; we are dealing with someone who is fundamentally incapable of having a rational dialogue. To be frank, I think anyone paying attention can see exactly what's happening in that thread. But fine, if you disagree, there isn't much I can do about it.

I have no desire to drag this out any further; I only stepped in to make it clear that Thomas Morgan67 isn't the only one with certain impressions, and I expressed my disagreement with you in a separate post... and that is truly all there is to it.

Sarah Stewart72 said:Is there some kind of official rule about this? I guess why even wait 24 hours when the nonsense is right in front of us?

The 24-hour wait exists because moderators aren't online 24/7, nor can they realistically react instantly.

As for the complaints, I don't see the point in throwing out provocations in a thread and then acting shocked when someone fires back—it seems a bit much to demand a penalty for the other person while ignoring your own role in starting it.

Richard Nelson84 said:Taken out of context like that, it totally looks like they're calling you mentally unstable or something.

Yeah, that’s exactly what he did. But let’s be real—he isn't just taking shots at me; he’s insulting everyone dealing with this brutal, often incurable disease. He’s out here using these cheap provocations to question people's basic level of empathy and the overall state of our culture, which is honestly just pathetic, don't you think?

But that’s just not how it works. If you actually look at the big picture, isn't it obvious that this is all just a reaction to what you said? There is absolutely no way that's happening in Leonidaland. And if we’re gonna talk about "fair moderation," then honestly, both your post and his should probably just be tossed straight into the trash bin.

The only thing you missed is that my response was actually a direct reaction to what Thomas Morgan67 said: Is this happening at the CIA or in some weird version of Wonderland? This is just his classic way of talking to me—always trying to take a cheap shot or talk down to me like I’m some kind of idiot. He’ll go as far as asking if I even bothered reading the article I linked, just to be condescending. Honestly, the way he "communicates" with me ranges from passive-aggressive snark to straight-up insults that honestly feel borderline hateful, if you ask me. You can see it clearly enough if you look at this thread or any of the other ones where we unfortunately crossed paths.

Why? Honestly, I'm just as clueless as you are. Maybe I remind him of someone from his real life, or maybe he just can't stand the way I talk, but look—I'm not about to sit here and take that kind of heat on this forum. That's why I'm starting this thread.
Points 2, 3, 5, and 6 aren't even up for debate, so I have no clue why you'd even bother bringing them up?

I’m only saying this because I basically just repeated exactly what I wrote in the previous paragraph. Seriously, though—preschoolers who can actually recognize their letters can pretty much run a Google search by themselves now, wouldn't you say?

Point 4 is the only thing even remotely debatable here. But honestly, if you actually look at the context, it’s blindingly obvious that those labels used in that section aren't even aimed at you, so there's no reason for a ban. The only part of that whole segment I actually have an issue with is this... Hey Alain Look, he only wrote that just to get under your skin, didn't he? But honestly, even if he did, it’s not like you could actually get him sanctioned for it anyway.

He just dropped a massive pile of insults about those girls and wrapped it all up with a "hey Sarah Stewart72." Look, Richard Nelson84, there’s no point in us trying to convince each other here, but that wasn't an accident—he wrote it exactly like that on purpose, and I'd love to see him try to pin all that crap on me. This is an online forum, and honestly, the stuff he’s pulling in these posts is bordering on straight-up cyberbullying if you ask me. You don't see it that way? Well, Michelle Phillips54 already made her stance clear, so let's just agree to disagree and move on.

Look, you aren't getting paid to sit there and stomach this garbage, right? Well, newsflash: we moderators aren't getting paid to play puppet master just because some forum users want us to dance to their tune, either. Just because you’re convinced there’s a massive problem doesn't mean one actually exists in reality, does it? We’ll take a look at every single complaint, don't get me wrong, but as far as I'm concerned? I don't see any damn reason to issue a strike for that post above.

Alright.

I’ll just address the bolded part here. You gave him back exactly what he dished out to you, so why is there even a debate? This isn't some sterile Microsoft PDF where every little "clash" needs to be neutralized immediately. Honestly, I think this kind of friction is actually good for Microsoft. Both of you were a bit sharper than the usual crowd, sure, but I don't see anyone breaking any actual rules. Now, if you wanted to go after him with insults that would make a sailor blush, that's a different story and wouldn't fly here.

I just want everyone on the forum to chill out.

This falls under the jurisdiction of the CIA, but personally, I wouldn't sanction either his posts or yours.

I've noticed several times how users who insult the moderation get slapped with an automatic ban. Which, fine, totally fair. But it's not okay for users to be judged by a completely different set of standards. Sure, I respond to provocations with the same energy—mostly—but I'm not out here stalking people across the forum just to pick a fight. I jump into threads because they interest me. As for Thomas Morgan67, from everything I've seen, my takeaway is that he came onto this thread with a very specific agenda. His ultimate goal is clearly to drive me off the forum, which is obvious if you look at his comments on this thread

What kind of lobbying is this? Honestly, I couldn't care less about what stance you, he, or anyone else takes. My job is to moderate objectively, and that's what I aim to do.

What I'm seeing on Microsoft is that a certain group of users—and there are plenty of them—get offended way too easily whenever they run into someone with an opposing view. Then the drama starts, everyone's making a scene over every single word, threatening to quit the thread, inventing insults, or twisting the context of what was actually said. And no, I'm not just talking about you. Unfortunately, it happens all the time.

I have zero issues with differing opinions, provided they aren't delivered through personal attacks or blatant vitriol.

To me, the bigger issue is the blowout between you and casualcanyon3, where things got much more heated than your situation with Thomas Morgan67. You both had elements in your posts that could have earned you a warning, but I decided to let it slide because I thought it could evolve into a high-quality discussion—which, in my opinion, it did.

And finally, I don't think this is about the specific post you linked; it feels more like a private feud between you two. If you read the posts in this thread, it's glaringly obvious you two can't see eye to eye. But frankly, I don't give a damn. If you can't settle your differences, just use the ignore button. Or maybe learn that people aren't always going to agree with you.

There is no "private feud" with casualcanyon3, not even a hint of one from my perspective. I just happen to be sensitive to women being stigmatized in general (which seems to be a natural thing). I wish I'd see the media constantly calling women "gorgeous, stunning, brilliant, or incredibly kind." But that just doesn't happen, not even close.

Seriously, I have zero clue how you managed to jump to the conclusion that this was some kind of massive exaggeration. 🤷
I didn't quite get what you were getting at with that first post you linked, but this one makes even less sense to me. I’ll let the other mods, Smodica, and whoever else handles these appeals take a look at my side of things, but honestly? It feels like you’re just totally misreading everyone else's posts. Are you doing this on purpose or what? I can't tell.

Why would I do that on purpose? These kinds of arguments aren't my vibe at all—they're exhausting and just plain draining. We clearly just have different ideas of what counts as being offensive.

Michelle Phillips54 said:The wait time is 24 hours because moderators aren't glued to their screens 24/7 and can't always jump on stuff immediately.

As for the appeal, I don't see the point in throwing out a provocation and then acting shocked when someone fires right back at you, only to turn around and demand a penalty for them while ignoring your own behavior.

I already gave my answer to this above. Look, Thomas Morgan67 has come at me multiple times in various ways, and I haven't used that kind of tone or those kinds of words with anyone else. But hey, it's clear we aren't going to see eye to eye here.

As far as I'm concerned, you can just lock the thread. Thanks.

So, Sarah Stewart72, you just won't stop trying to STIGMATIZE ME, will you? First it was that other thread, and now you're back at it here, doubling down in a second post.
I mean, seriously—if I express my view that vulgarity is just another form of primitivism and write what I consider a perfectly reasonable, non-offensive explanation, is it really acceptable for me to be accused of stigmatizing women? First by attacking me directly in that previous discussion, then through these persistent posts directed at others, and now for a second time right here? Even when I try to clarify that isn't my intention? It feels like I'm being demonized as some sort of Grand Inquisitor regardless of what I say, even if I try to just walk away from the argument entirely.

I’m asking purely for the sake of clarity: if someone else were to argue that swearing or spitting on the street is primitive and vulgar, would I be allowed to relentlessly accuse them of stigmatizing and labeling people, no matter how they phrased it, provided they weren't explicitly trolling or provoking? Because what she's doing technically doesn't cross the line into a direct insult, and she knows that perfectly well. It’s a deeply perfidious and dirty game.

casualcanyon3 said:So, Sarah Stewart72, you’re still out here trying to STIGMATIZE ME, first in that other thread and now doubling down right here in this second post.
I mean, seriously, if I just say that I view vulgarity as a form of primitivism—and write a perfectly normal, non-offensive post explaining my logic—is it really okay for you to constantly accuse me of stigmatizing women, first by calling me out directly there, then through these passive-aggressive posts to others, and now again right here? Even after I tried to explain that's not what I'm doing? It’s like you're demonizing me like some kind of Grand Inquisitor regardless of what I say, even when I try to just walk away from the argument.

Just asking for clarity here—if someone else decides to say they find swearing or spitting in the street primitive, can I then relentlessly accuse them of stigmatizing and labeling people, no matter what they say, without being told that I'm just trolling or being provocative? Because what she's pulling isn't technically an insult, and she knows it. It’s a incredibly shady, dirty way to play the game.

I honestly don't get why the outbursts have to be this aggressive. It's just my opinion. Since I got sucked into the topic, I actually tried to look for what you consider "vulgar and primitive" out on the streets—and I couldn't find it. You really can't judge a person solely based on how they look.

Maybe we just see things differently, but for me, being vulgar or primitive is about behavior, not someone's appearance, no matter how much or how little clothing they're wearing. And I'd really appreciate it if you'd stop insulting me; I've had enough. I already told Richard Nelson84 that I don't have a problem with you, just like I don't have one with anyone else, but he was the one who brought you up, not me. This isn't a thread about you, and I wouldn't have mentioned you at all if you hadn't jumped in.

Sarah Stewart72 said:I honestly don't understand why you're being so incredibly aggressive here.

Good grief, please, stop playing the martyr. I’ll gladly take a ban if that’s what it takes, but for heaven's sake, you are overstepping massively. You’re painting me as some kind of villain while casting yourself as this pure saint who—heaven forbid—just wanted to defend the downtrodden... give me a break.

It is merely my perspective. Since I became so preoccupied with this topic, I tried to look at people out on the street and identify what you consider to be 'vulgar and primitive'—and I simply couldn't. Therefore, it seems impossible to judge a person solely based on their appearance.

I am quoting myself from that other thread for the third time now:
"I do not view vulgarity through the lens of whether someone is a good or bad person."

So, in that sense, I am not judging anyone. What exactly are you accusing me of judging?! Are you suggesting it is impossible for someone to look vulgar and primitive? And yet, when someone dares to say they find it possible, they are supposedly "stigmatizing people," a point you never miss an opportunity to hammer home in both threads.
Meanwhile, I am expected to remain silent because apparently, I am "turning the discussion into a personal vendetta."

Perhaps we just see things differently, but to me, something can only be vulgar and primitive in terms of behavior, never in a person's physical appearance, regardless of how much or how little clothing they are wearing.

Since when does having a different perspective grant you the right to persecute me with accusations of stigmatization?

... This isn't about you, and I wouldn't have even brought you up if you hadn't chimed in.

Oh, I see. So it’s perfectly fine to accuse me twice in this thread, but once I push back, suddenly "this isn't about me." Unbelievable.

And this is what the moderators consider acceptable? Behold the height of "constructive debate."

I have no desire to turn this into a personal crusade, but I refuse to sit idly by in the face of systemic accusations and provocations. It happens repeatedly: I discuss something on Microsoft, and suddenly someone attaches themselves to my posts with this level of accusation and hostility. I won't resort to using the ignore button because I actually want to know if people are talking about me. So, if what I'm saying is permitted, what choice is left? Should I just stay quiet so I don't turn another thread into such a "constructive discussion"?

The mods weighed in on this one. Honestly, there was some provocation flying around from multiple sides, but it didn't quite cross the line of what our rules allow. Given how the whole debate unfolded, they decided it was better to let it slide without handing out any bans this time. There’s really no point in everyone continuing to bicker here. If someone is getting under your skin, just hit that ignore button.
