Need help with RAM upgrade

So, I'm looking at picking up an ASUS Prime H81M-K with an LGA 1150 socket—supports DDR3 up to 1600MHz...

I've got my eye on an 8GB RAM kit, but I'm hitting a bit of a snag because the MSI website doesn't explicitly list them as compatible. It's a Corsair Vengeance LPX kit, PC-14900, 8 GB, HX318C10FB/8 DDR3 1866MHz...

Someone mentioned that if the motherboard can't handle the full 1866MHz, the memory will just downclock itself to whatever the board's maximum speed is. Is there any truth to that... and would this specific RAM actually work on this board?

They're right about that—but if I were in your shoes, I'd probably just grab some RAM with a slightly lower clock speed. Honestly, it’s just to be 100% sure you won't run into any headaches. Besides, is there really a noticeable difference between 1066, 1333, 1600, or 1866MHz? Not in any real-world scenario... you won't feel it at all during normal use. So, don't sweat it too much.

You can find that exact same model at Best Buy if that's more convenient for you. Or maybe just grab a Kingston 1x4GB 1333MHz CL9 instead.
