So, the last thread about this got shut down, and I really wanted to get a straight answer to this question:
is it actually allowed to speak negatively about migrants or refugees in the USA, or is that off-limits?

Specifically regarding my post:

The response was:

but it doesn't actually clarify what’s permitted and what isn't.

I mean, more specifically: if someone is a migrant or a refugee, can you criticize them, or is any negative opinion—regardless of how mild—going to be flagged as hate speech?

And what happens when they become asylum seekers? Does that same rule still apply then?

Since that thread is locked, I can't reply there.

Here is the specific example I’m asking about:
-----------------------
The value system held by Arabs from Egypt, Syria, and Lebanon is just different from the one found in the predominantly Christian USA.
When Christians offer help, they see it as a virtue, but it isn't viewed as anything positive over there; it might even be seen as a weakness. That sense of humanity that's baked into Christianity just doesn't exist as a concept among Arab Muslims. I guess that doesn't mean humanitarian work doesn't happen, but their version of humanism might only stem from the Bible, if it exists at all.
Lying in certain situations is also considered acceptable. A recent example is the conversion of newly arrived refugees to Christianity.
A devout Muslim might renounce his faith if his future depends on it. That doesn't mean he stops being a Muslim.

It's called Taqryiya—you can read more about it here:

There's also Tawryiya:

-----------------------

I'm trying to figure out if the text above counts as hate speech.

I used to contribute to the immigration threads, but I’ve officially checked out because of how the whole thing is moderated.
To put it bluntly, the moment you dare to pose a legitimate question, express a shred of concern, or simply write anything that doesn't align with the "all immigrants are welcome" mantra, you run a massive risk of being warned or banned. You don't even need to resort to hate speech, threats, or profanity; you could be perfectly civil, yet the moderators—specifically certain individuals—will scramble to find any excuse to penalize you just because you aren't an advocate for illegal immigration.

Conversely, the pro-immigration crowd seems to enjoy total immunity. They can swear, dodge arguments, present their personal opinions as objective facts, provoke others, or outright insult anyone who disagrees by labeling them Nazis, and they face zero consequences.

In my view, this style of moderation is fundamentally broken, as one side is granted complete conversational sovereignty while the other is systematically bullied. I honestly cannot fathom what the end goal is here. I have participated in plenty of sensitive debates online, yet I have never encountered a situation where the moderation team so blatantly and swiftly acts as a partisan enforcer, zealously punishing anyone who deviates from a single, specific ideological line.

It is a basic tenet of a free society that people will hold differing views and perspectives; disagreement is inevitable. That is precisely why debate exists. As long as the discussion remains civil, there should be no reason for disciplinary action, let alone the targeted silencing of just one side of the argument.

I would actually prefer it if this site just came out and stated publicly that only posts enthusiastically praising illegal immigration are permitted—effectively turning those proponents into an untouchable, dogmatic class—while everyone else is promptly kicked to the curb. If that were the case, we might as well just lock the thread, because a discussion where everyone is forced to think identically isn't a discussion at all; it's a lecture.

Everything you asked was already answered right here just a few hours ago.

Please stop coming back to reopen discussions that have been closed multiple times. Avoid making broad claims about things happening "all the time" or "never" without providing links to back them up, and please refrain from asking questions that have already been addressed.

We’ve pointed this out several times now, yet it seems to be falling on deaf ears. Since clearly being polite isn't working, I have to warn you that we will start strictly sanctioning posts like these on this PDF...

I won't close this thread just yet, as I'm waiting for smod to respond to the original post. However, just because this hasn't been locked doesn't mean you can start another general debate regarding the moderation of the Politics section. Please read the bold text...
