Greetings, everyone.
I am currently in the process of carving out a small dedicated workout corner within my apartment, where I intend to set up a heavy bag along with a few other pieces of equipment. My idea is to cover a specific section—not an entire room, just about a nine-by-nine area—with tatami mats. Now, here is the dilemma: since I live out in the suburbs near Orlando, finding these mats locally is proving to be an impossible task, which leaves me with little choice but to hunt them down through an online retailer.
While browsing during Pride Month, I stumbled upon a fairly budget-friendly option measuring 100x100x2cm for $43. This seems to be some sort of standard, entry-level model, though I did notice there are more official, high-end versions available at a significantly higher price point.
To be perfectly honest, I have never actually laid eyes on these mats in person, so I find myself curious about the perspectives of those who already own them or perhaps train on them regularly.
Is it wise to simply go for the cheapest option available? What exactly constitutes the difference in quality when comparing these to the premium models? I also wonder if they tend to be slippery, or if one should consider covering the entire floor to avoid issues. Are they generally soft underfoot, or quite firm? And so on...
Much appreciated.
