Vacation (2015)

Since it feels like almost every comedy fan out there has sat through at least one movie from the Vacation franchise starring Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo, I’m betting a lot of people were pretty stoked to hear about the fifth installment (or sixth, if you count that 2003 TV movie) hitting theaters on July 29th this year.



Just like the movies before it, this one follows the Griswold family as they head out on a meticulously planned vacation dreamed up by the head of the household. This time around, the film is directed by Franklin's (Chase) grown son, Rusty, who is just trying to give his own family an unforgettable trip, much like his uncle did for him four times over. 😁

Rusty is played by Ed Helms, who most of us know from The Hangover series, and his wife is played by Christina Applegate (basically Al Bundy's "daughter"). We'll get to see Chevy and Beverly again, though they're playing smaller roles this time, and the standout performance will likely come from Chris Hemsworth. Yeah, Thor himself is playing Rusty's brother-in-law. 😁

Nice, another Vacation movie after ages. Chevy is basically the king of this kind of comedy 😁 One of my favorites has to be Spies Like Us.
It’d be a shame if his son didn't get to play opposite Anthony Michael Hall again.
I’m not expecting it to hit quite like those 80s classics, but I'll definitely tune in just for little Applegate 😁

Based on the trailer, I get the feeling they’re leaning way too hard into toilet humor and crude jokes. That kind of vulgarity just wasn't really part of the vibe in the older movies.

Decent movie. It’s got some solid foundations. I had a few good laughs, and honestly, a comedy like this serves its purpose—it kept me entertained. Recommended.

You realize they still make those national Lampoo movies today, right?

I didn't even realize it myself until the guys over at RedletterMed mentioned it on a forum once.

Finally, an actual comedy that works. Great humor, genuinely fun... It’s getting pretty rare to stumble upon a decent, high-quality comedy these days.

There were some funny moments here and there, but I wouldn't say I was exactly blown away.
Hey, Chevy was getting so worked up I honestly thought his head might pop 😢 Christina is nowhere near being the sex bomb Kelly was back during MWC.
It looks like Ed Helms is basically taking over for Chevy Chase as the king of those dysfunctional family comedies—they even announced some Christmas movie with him in the lead(?).
Thor really holds his own in this role 😁 The kids were incredibly annoying, just seriously irritating—especially the little ones.
The rafting scene was probably the highlight for me 🤣

"Vacation" is a genuinely fun, laugh-out-loud comedy that manages to avoid falling straight into the trap of tired clichés. While you’ll definitely notice echoes of those classic Chevy Chase family movie franchises, this flick brings its own flavor to the table through a certain level of audacity and a refreshed comedic sensibility. Even though we’re following the predictable mishaps of the Grinch family on their road trip, the writers pepper in enough edgy, slightly provocative jokes and silly, lowbrow humor to keep things from feeling stale. I’d say it’s worth checking out this latest adventure where the Grinch clan sets off on a massive 2,560-mile trek in a rented Ford Econoline, only to realize their GPS is stuck on some random language they can't understand. The roadside detours are clever, and the whole experience is backed by a really solid soundtrack with great song choices.

Don't let the unfairly low scores on most review sites throw you off; just sit back and enjoy the ride. By blending old-school charm with modern gags, "Vacation" succeeds at exactly what any good comedy should aim for: making people actually smile.

Yet another entry in the endless line of mindless "comedies" clearly aimed at people with a shallow sense of humor. It’s borderline offensive at times.

Surprisingly decent.. You can definitely laugh at some of the classic toilet humor bits. There were even a few genuinely great jokes that actually had me cracking up.👍

I was expecting something pretty terrible, but I actually ended up liking it. 🍿 Sure, it’s nowhere near being a "quality" film—not by any stretch—but it works if you just want to turn your brain off and zone out for a bit.

Terrible movie—not funny at all. I managed maybe two or three laughs, and I’m usually the type who enjoys just about any comedy.
The core issue with this film, and honestly with the million similar "comedies" hitting theaters lately, boils down to one thing: we just don't have real comedians anymore. These are mostly just actors following a script, trying their hardest to *act* funny—but they simply don't have that natural spark in them. That's really all there is to it.

I was cracking up too. Especially Thor and those ridiculous faucets of his xD
Btw Christina Applegate was hands down the best part of the whole movie.

For me, the standout moment had to be that scene out on the lake with the instructor.😁
