I did a bit of digging through the forums, but I couldn't find a dedicated thread for this movie... and honestly, I think it definitely deserves its own space 🙂

For me personally, this stands out as one of the most beautiful and impactful films ever made!

Honestly, this thing is a total masterpiece and easily one of the greatest flicks ever made—it's definitely sitting in my top 10.

There’s a massive injustice tied to that movie: it walked away with Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director, yet Russell Crowe was snubbed (as noted in the review at this link), even though critics were unanimous that his performance was the very reason the film worked. Instead, Denzel Washington took home the trophy. Purely political correctness.

Yeah, honestly, it's a real shame he didn't walk away with the Oscar for that performance...

This might actually be Crowe's best performance—he really carried this entire movie on his back. Personally, I find these types of films pretty tedious most of the time, but I have to admit, this one was actually quite good. 👍

I don't know, man, I think he was absolutely killer in both movies!

Personally, I think Crowe was way better in Gladiator, and there's a good reason for that...

But hey, a great movie is still a great movie. The cast and direction are just spot on. Ed Harris is so incredibly moving, and even Paul Bettany—who isn't usually my cup of tea—is absolutely stellar in this one.

Russell Crowe would follow up on his performance in Gladiator. But once the credits rolled, I was honestly left speechless. The acting? A total top 10.

Such a great movie. I could honestly watch this over and over again. In my opinion, Crowe is actually better here than he was in Gladiator; he’s the one truly carrying this film, whereas in that one, Phoenix took the lead.

Truly one of the greatest cinematic achievements ever put to film. 👍

It honestly messed with my head how everything wrapped up—the whole thing being a schizophrenic break where those recruits were nothing more than hallucinations.
Even now, I still find myself naively trying to convince myself the government drugged him just to make him think the whole ordeal was a hallucination. 😁
Keep in mind, back then I had no clue the movie was actually based on a true story.
Stupid as that sounds, though, the movie is great.

If my memory serves me right—and I might be misremembering—I think I read somewhere that Nash's wife is portrayed quite differently in the movie compared to what actually happened... In the film, she’s right there by his side through the whole struggle with his illness, but in reality, she actually left him once his condition took a turn for the worse, only returning later when he won the Nobel Prize. Okay, look, I get it... it's a movie, and they need that artistic license to tell a story, but then that final speech during the Nobel Prize ceremony just feels a bit off... 🤷 It’s been ages since I watched it, so the finer details are a bit fuzzy, and I could definitely be wrong, but that's just how I remember it sticking in my mind...

Don't get me wrong though, the movie is absolutely phenomenal... highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

I have to agree; the film just didn't click for me either, and I'd give it the exact same score.
What really threw me off was how the audience is essentially "tricked" into experiencing his schizophrenia firsthand, forced to view his distorted reality as the absolute truth until that sudden realization hits near the end.
Personally, I’ve always preferred a more traditional way of storytelling where you follow a clear narrative path, so this experimental approach of pulling the viewer directly into a fractured psyche just isn't my style.

Movies, man... it’s alright, I guess. It does its thing and moves on.
It’s got some decent moments—honestly, it’s weird how much it sticks with me, even though I saw it way back when it first hit theaters.

I actually just finished watching it. It was solid, and I’m totally with you—Russell's performance basically carried the whole movie on its back. Such a shame about that Oscar.
Honestly, Connelly and Harris were killer too. 👍
