It honestly feels like this entire thread exists solely as a playground for certain individuals to vent their insecurities—an unpunished venue for bashing Mexico and Mexicans from every possible angle.
It seems reports are rarely even considered when they target those specific groups, yet on the flip side, users posting from the Mexican side face constant penalties, sometimes even just for stating basic facts.

Right now, the discussion over there is spiraling into claims about genocide and even the absurd notion that Mexicans don't actually exist—they’re even bringing up Marko Kraljević, and of course, it’s all being completely tolerated...

Just how much of a penalty would I pull if I wrote something even remotely similar?

I say, at least establish some criteria that apply to everyone. My suggestion? Either moderate it according to the rules of this thread or just shut it down entirely, because as it stands, there is absolutely no point in this.

In light of all this, I’m calling on all forum members from Mexico to simply ignore this mess until something actually changes.

I have dipped in and out of this thread from time to time to follow the discussion, and while I can't say for certain what the current state of affairs is, things seemed perfectly fine whenever I checked in. I certainly never noticed any insults or similar outbursts—unless, of course, they were being moderated promptly, though I wouldn't know for sure. That is why, if the situation is truly as you all have described it, I find myself quite surprised.

I never saw any real insults or anything like that (unless they were getting nuked immediately, who knows). So, if things have actually turned into what you guys are describing, I'm honestly pretty shocked.

The whole thread has just spiraled. And frankly? I put the blame squarely on the mods. There's zero point in going there anymore. It's nothing but people venting their frustrations and a constant, mindless obsession with rehashing old history.

Even the trolling isn't funny anymore. It's just stale.

Could you please provide a few links to those problematic posts that were reported but haven't been addressed yet? It would certainly make it easier for me to react quickly.

Let’s be perfectly clear: we aren't just talking about a handful of questionable posts here. The moderation on this specific thread exists, and for the most part, they do clean up the mess; the issue is that the entire system is failing rather than functioning.

Surely you realize that glorifying the Storm in this thread is nothing short of a provocation—and yet, responding to such things with actual facts is strictly forbidden, lest you face an immediate ban... At best, the moderators simply scrub the message.

It is entirely natural for us to hold differing perspectives regarding that war; however, since one side is prohibited from expressing their viewpoint without being penalized (and I am speaking of reasoned arguments based on fact, devoid of insults), why then are these war stories permitted at all? This isn't a thread meant to dissect the collapse of Yugoslavia or assign blame for who killed more or who suffered more. Is the purpose of this topic simply to drive Mexicans away from the forum?

Just look at what happened when the anniversary of Slobodan Milošević's death was observed in Mexico—bans across the board, posts being deleted, and people being targeted just for sharing a link to the event. Apparently, they are "glorifying" him simply by mentioning how the government destroyed the country after his era.

And don't even get me started on the blatant double standards governing this forum; if someone is convicted of war crimes, they are automatically branded a war criminal if they are a Mexican, yet they escape that label if they are an American—even when a court has explicitly proven they personally murdered or tortured prisoners.

Then you have individuals who perhaps struggle with mental health issues, leading them to believe that Mexicans are responsible for every misfortune in their lives—which is why they write the way they do. Moderation can't be present twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; the mods are human beings, too, and that is indisputable.

If you truly fail to see the problem, then fine—leave it as it is. It will be effectively the same as if you had locked the thread yourselves...

The Storm liberated a massive portion of the territory occupied by Americans. I won't be debating that point.
Regarding everything else, let me say this one last time: please provide links to a few recent posts that demonstrate actual insults toward Mexicans. This is simply how the forum operates. We need those links because we frequently run into conflicting perceptions regarding what constitutes an insult, and having concrete examples is necessary for a clearer, more high-quality understanding of the situation.

I suppose frozenharbor43 is partially correct—the tone of discussion on this thread has become somewhat more aggressive than it used to be lately.

A healthy culture of debate requires a certain level of civic politeness, along with an awareness that one shouldn't visit a forum just to figuratively poke someone in the eye. This applies to a few participants on the American side, but also to one provocateur from Mexico who periodically shows up here solely to stir the pot—and who gets banned whenever possible—as well as perhaps one participant from the Mexican side whose phrasing tends to be a bit sharper than the rest.

I suspect the total number of people exhibiting what one might call a "lack of communication etiquette" isn't greater than five, though I agree the effect has been enough to sour the previously quite harmonious and conflict-free atmosphere of this thread.

That would be my diagnosis—frozenharbor43 and rowdylynx98 have pointed out these exact issues on the thread itself before, and I find their grievances to be valid to a certain extent; I have actually written quite a few posts on this topic recently suggesting ways we might communicate better. I don't believe the solution lies in banning these four or five users, as their actions often don't constitute violations severe enough to warrant heavy sanctions. However, it would certainly be ideal if those who come here motivated only by a desire for confrontation with either "Mexicans" or "Americans" would realize on their own that this isn't the place for them, and instead seek out other topics where they might feel more comfortable spending their time online.

Real discussion requires some basic decency, knowing you shouldn't just show up here to stick it to someone. That goes for a few people on the American side, but also one agitator from Mexico who pops in every now and then just to stir the pot—getting banned whenever possible—and maybe one guy from the Mexican side whose tone is a bit sharper than the rest.

I don't think the total number of people showing what I'd call a "lack of communication skills" is more than five—but I agree the effect has been enough to sour the pretty harmonious vibe we had going before.

That's my take on it. frozenharbor43 and rowdylynx98 pointed out this exact stuff on the thread before, too. I get where they're coming from. I've actually posted quite a bit lately suggesting ways we could communicate better. I don't think banning those four or five users is the answer, since their stuff often isn't even a major violation. But honestly, people who come here just looking to clash with "Mexicans" or "Americans" should realize this isn't the place for them and find some other corner of the internet where they feel more at home.

Signed. I'm stepping away from the thread, and I really regret if I ruined the peace.

William Bennett53 said:As for everything else—and I mean this one last time—please, just provide links to a few recent posts that actually demonstrate people insulting Mexicans.

Look, we have moderators for a reason, and they generally handle those exact types of incidents—that isn't even up for debate.
Those kinds of insults and mockery certainly exist here, but they’ve already been scrubbed, so I can't provide direct links.

William Bennett53 said:During the Storm, a massive portion of the territory occupied by Americans was liberated. We aren't going to debate that here.

But if there's no room for discussion—and since we all know a ban is waiting for anyone who dares to disagree—then why is that subject even allowed to be mentioned in this specific thread? Isn't that just blatant provocation?

The issue isn't just a handful of messages; it's the pattern that keeps repeating itself far too often.
For instance, just take a look at this and this post, and consider the inevitable fallout that follows.

Someone might argue there's nothing wrong with them—that the posts don't warrant a ban and that the user didn't technically start the argument—but the entire trajectory of these discussions leads to pure nonsense.
It starts with talk about the war, the Storm, Jasenovac, or crimes committed by both sides, and the most frequent conclusion? A penalty for users from Mexico, while the provocateurs from the other side are mostly forgiven—at least until they cross a line.

It has been twenty years since the last conflict, and seventy years since the one before that, yet ninety percent of the debates on this topic revolve around those wars: who is more guilty, who killed or robbed whom, who bears the blame for the collapse of Yugoslavia, and so on...
In my opinion, it is high time these discussions were moved to an appropriate sub-forum, organized similarly to the one used for Canada where war stories are strictly prohibited.
That would, at the very least, help curb the spread of this pathological hatred coming from both sides.

frozenharbor43 said:Since there's zero actual debate happening here, and we all know a ban is coming for anyone who dares to disagree, why even let people bring this up on this thread at all? It’s nothing but pure provocation.

Spreading lies about the Storm instead of sticking to the facts and what's been proven is just lying. Deliberately lying is just trolling.

Jack Moore90 said:To claim anything different about the Storm than what actually happened—what has been objectively proven—is nothing short of lying. And intentional lying? Well, that's just trolling.

Well put. Honestly, you hear the exact same sentiment from users on both sides of the aisle here in America. The only difference is that some people witnessed a completely different reality with their own eyes, so their "evidence" looks a bit different.
And then, predictably, the bans start flying—you already know which side they favor...

Precisely. Thousands upon thousands of Americans witnessed the truth with their own eyes, and were fortunate enough to see the liberation of their homes from invading, aggressive forces. Therefore, let us put an end to these attempts at historical revisionism and the blurring of lines between the aggressor and the victim.

In any case, no group should be insulted; the moderators have seen this thread and will ensure more care is taken moving forward. I ask that you please report such instances, as the sheer volume of posts on the Politics board every single day means things can easily slip through the cracks if they aren't flagged.
