Just had knee surgery—an arthroscopy.
They did a partial medial and lateral meniscectomy and smoothed out some damaged cartilage on the medial femoral condyle. That’s what the discharge papers say, so I get all that part...
But apparently, they're saying a valgus tibial osteotomy is actually indicated for this patient.
Could someone help me make sense of that?
Thanks!

Back in 2008, I underwent a tibial osteotomy.
In my case, the procedure was necessitated by uneven cartilage wear that caused my leg to bow out into an "O" shape. To rectify that misalignment, they essentially have to break the shin bone to reposition the knee back into its proper alignment, subsequently securing everything in place with a metal plate and screws. It is generally recommended for younger patients who are already starting to deal with the onset of degenerative arthritis.

So, my doctor is pushing for a tibial osteotomy because of this "O" shaped bone alignment I’ve got going on... just looking for some real talk from anyone who’s actually been through the recovery process after an operation like that...

it feels like there isn't a single soul here with any actual experience...
