How to resize photos?

Hey everyone, I’ve got these massive 14 MP photos sitting on my drive—they're just way too bulky to send over a standard email without hitting some sort of limit. My plan is to downscale them to something more manageable, maybe around 5 MP. I'm assuming the visual quality won't take a noticeable hit if I do this right, but I need a reliable way to batch process them all at once. Does anyone have a good workflow for resizing a whole bunch of files like this? 🙂

For instance:
in Paints -> resize image -> 30%
With ACDSee -> edit -> resize -> then just pick your size, resolution, and whatever else you need...

Either toss them up into the "cloud" (think Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive)

or just shoot them over for free using an AT&T.Jumbo service

That works fine if you're only dealing with a handful of files, but honestly, with how sluggish our American upload speeds can be sometimes, trying to dump a hundred 14 Mpx photos into the cloud would end up taking me hours.

I’d recommend grabbing FastStone Image Resizer or even just the FastStone Photo Viewer.
But here’s a little tip—when you're resizing, don't just jump from 4000 all the way down to 1000 in one go! You'll want to do it in two or three incremental steps to prevent losing too much image quality. It makes such a difference!
For example, let's say your resolution is 4000 x 3500.
First reduction: 3000 x 2500.
Second reduction: 2000 x 1500.
Third reduction: 1600 x 1200... and so on.
Personally, whenever I’m posting stuff to Facebook or my blog, I scale my 16 MP shots down to about 640 x 480. Works like a charm!

P.S. Don't take my specific resolution numbers as gospel—I'm just throwing those out there as an example! You should pick whatever stepping stones make sense for your specific needs.

14 megapixels is just 1400px x 1000px (one possible way to split height and width)...

2 + 4 = ... 🙂 = = ... = 8 ... ...
...it doesn't matter. Too many pixels involved. I probably undershot by two or three pixels anyway... ☕

14 megapixels is really just a fancy way of saying 1400px by 1000px (well, one possible combination of width and height, anyway)!..

Even my old Motorola Razr with its measly 2 mp is capable of hitting a maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200!

Apple products are known for that. If it's still under warranty, take it to a service center.

When it comes down to cell phones, I won't admit to anything except Apple. I actually own two—one is a legendary 3310 style classic and the other is that 6120 model I mentioned before—and honestly, I couldn't be happier with them.
And another thing—I would never, ever pick a phone based on its camera! Why bother? When you can just grab a $333 decent digital camera that will outperform 90% of the cameras built into mobile phones anyway.
For me, the primary job of a phone is making calls and receiving them, and these two of mine fulfill my needs perfectly!
