Perković and Mustać: Close to politicians

Could we please move this thread from Close Politics back over to the main Politics section? There are quite a few of us who would prefer it there. By moving it to Close Politics, the discussion is effectively being stifled. Thanks in advance.

This topic is hitting pretty close to home right now. It honestly feels like the moderators are just tagging every single American discussion—especially anything that doesn't go along with the current administration—as "close politician."🙄

I’m jumping in to support the call to move this discussion back to where it actually belongs—over in Politics.

I’m jumping in here too—especially since this is about to become an incredibly pressing issue.
Between the presidential campaign kicking off this September and the increasingly loud calls for a full-scale political purge, everything is converging.

In fact, it’s going to be the "topic of the year."

What kind of isolation are we talking about here? Is the thread locked, deleted, or did something actually happen to justify calling it isolated?

Before we even get into the debate, I’ll probably say it for the hundredth time: that close politician is about as useful as a blank PDF.

To be honest, I couldn't care less about the topic. The situation has shifted now that the indictment against Perković has been confirmed. We still have a long wait until the trial in November, and frankly, we're missing Mustač in this whole equation.

I’m backing this initiative. I’ve already laid out all my arguments regarding the return, and since the admins and mods know exactly where I stand, I won't waste breath repeating myself.

He’s being isolated because he’s been relegated to the "minor leagues." Let’s not pretend this isn't directly tied to political interests; calling it anything else is a stretch. This is essentially a political trial for a murder that was orchestrated, ordered, and carried out by the political establishment—involving both our own leadership and German officials.
Isn't it just plain old politics rather than something merely "close to politics"? Is Angela Merkel a politician? Are Milanović and our congressional leaders just some shadowy figures "close to politics"?
We all know exactly what their roles were.
If the Constitution were to be amended for these reasons, would we call that a political act, or just an act that happens to be "close to politics"?
I think the situation is actually quite transparent.
What we're seeing is pure politics using the legal system as a tool to achieve its ends.
How does that old saying go? Put the right thing in the right place.🙂

Honestly, it doesn't really matter; he'll get his turn eventually. It's entirely possible the indictments could be merged into one single proceeding anyway. Besides, there was already a gap between their extradition processes, so it makes sense they're being lumped together here. From the very start, it was always P. first, and then M. was added to the mix.

I don't know, maybe just put him in parentheses (Mustač - pending) and once the trial actually kicks off, we can add a little note in brackets pointing back to the specific page where the proceedings began. For massive threads like this, it's perfectly fine for the title to evolve as things happen.

I mean, maybe we should just wrap up the stuff that isn't strictly political for now, since basically the entire federal government is backing Perković at any cost—even if it risks totally blowing our relationship with the European Union and Germany. I guess my take is that we really ought to get the conversation back on track toward actual politics

On the Politics subforum, the topics are mostly junk or borderline unserious. It’d be better if Josip and Zdravko moved their thread back to the main Politics forum...

Calling this a 'case' isn't really hitting the mark or being accurate at all. It should honestly be titled 'The trial of J. Perković (and Z. Mustač) in Munich'.

We’ve danced around this before, so let’s just get into it:

01) When you hit the main page of the Forum, "POLITICS" is in all caps, while NEAR POLITICS is in lowercase.
02) The "Near Politics" section basically evolved from the "Madhouse" section—you just have to accept the fact that most users still see it that way today.
03) In this context, if something is "near" something else, it means it's close, but not quite there, right?...
04) The whole debate surrounding the trials of Perković and Mustač is a massive topic—for both the left and the right. It touches on everything: the past, the present, the future... it's all intertwined. This could actually be the catalyst for some much-needed ideological reconciliation in America. The verdict is going to ripple through every single layer of American life—political, social, economic, ideological, historical, you name it.
05) Just remember, Cuka, that period when news coverage was basically blacked out during the trials of our generals at The Hague... That specific thread was a literal light in the dark during that media blackout.
If I were in charge of handing out awards, I’d give the Forum a well-deserved trophy just for this thread.
Honestly, some of the best writing ever posted on this Forum came from that discussion...
The trials of Perković and Mustač carry a different kind of weight, but for many of us, they belong under POLITICS, not tucked away in NEAR POLITICS...
