Admins and moderators: Dealing with trolling

Since Reddit is basically a giant digital hangout where you can talk about absolutely anything under the sun, you run into all sorts of people. You've got the intellectuals, the absolute trolls, the liars, the idiots, doctors, machinists, political junkies, psychologists... even the crude provocateurs.

Some people here know me for being blunt, others for being pathologically arrogant, some for my sarcasm, and some for what they call "crude and tasteless jokes." That "crude and tasteless" stuff was usually just aimed at people who occasionally needed a reality check to be brought back down to earth. A lot of people think I'm an idiot, but for a huge chunk of the community, I'm something else—I'm talking about the folks who reached out out of nowhere just to thank me for a good laugh. It’s a nice feeling knowing you can brighten someone's day with a bit of humor, which seems to be in short supply these days. It feels good.

To be clear, my posts were never meant to be malicious. In fact, we were usually laughing together, and there was never a single shred of anything more than just good, old-fashioned humor. But certain unimaginative, insecure types would report my posts purely out of spite, so I’d "deservedly" get flagged. More than once. Basically, I got banned. A couple of bans, actually. 🙂

MK. I really used to enjoy laughing on that sub, but unfortunately—or luckily—I got partially banned there. It felt like, I don't even know the right word to use without sounding offensive... let's just say it felt like someone turning their back on you for someone else's sake. Regardless, I have zero intention of going back to that sub, and honestly, I haven't even thought about appealing the partial ban. It happened, and there's no point in arguing about it. At least not for now.

But what really gets under my skin is a comment made yesterday by a certain user who carries some kind of "influence." I've been banned at least twice specifically because she reported my posts, purely due to her lack of wit. Her insulting comments are still sitting there on MK; I never reported them. I just responded to them, sometimes, or ignored them because I had my own nicknames for her comments and the person writing them. I never reported her, nor do I want to. And obviously, the moderators never stepped in on their own. I respect that.

The issue that needs addressing:

For some reason, after a malicious comment from this user that was typical of her, later on (which I only saw today), she maliciously mocked me—with zero humor and a heavy dose of cruelty and weird resentment—by changing her signature. She used a quote of mine solely to ridicule me, mock me, and bait questions about my username, essentially acting like I'm a finished story. She's using her status on MK to play the superior role while I'm stuck being the "inferior" one since I'm banned.

If this were just regular banter, I wouldn't say anything. But this time, I'm asking that it not be ignored. I am requesting appropriate sanctions.

P.S. It's incredibly petty and mean-spirited that the user Lepricorn claimed some girls left because of me. I guess she just managed to endure that unbearable torture longer than the rest.

I’ve got nothing left to say about MK. All I know is that all the funny, interesting people have cleared out.

I’m asking the committee for the signature formatting rule to step in: please remove the disputed signature, assign the appropriate point deduction, and let me know once it's handled.

Your signature actually follows the rules signature formatting rule
it’s set up in three lines using "Size 1" font, and you even got the hyperlink embedded correctly,
but there is one glaring issue where that first line is just way too long.
If I were you, I’d probably just trim it down by taking part of that first line
and moving it onto the second line, which is sitting there looking pretty empty anyway.
And hey, if you ever feel like reporting someone else's signature, you can always use the dedicated report button by clicking the icon .

At first glance, it looks like you're complaining about the MK sub, specifically regarding posts made there after you were assigned partial credit (and wouldn't have the right to comment anyway, given the rules that prevent users with partial status from participating in subforums where they hold it). However, the links actually lead to the General Discussion board, where you were actively debating with that colleague in question. As you likely know, moderation on the General board is a bit more relaxed than elsewhere. Therefore, one shouldn't necessarily expect these kinds of provocations to be penalized there. In any case, the proper procedure is to report the disputed post (or posts) first; if the moderators fail to act, then you can come to the oversight committee to demand an explanation.

Hey William Bennett53, man, I just want this user to ditch that signature where he's straight-up trolling him, seriously!

@ darkseal9 - it’s not exactly some high-brow evening of contemporary poetry at the Palace this Thursday, so there's really no need for us to be interpreting everyone's grievances...
Well, the authorities have seen the post, so if anyone feels the need to weigh in, they're welcome to.
