Alright, thanks, darkhawk.
The appeal has been received and thoroughly reviewed. Now, we simply wait for the senior moderator to weigh in.

edit
While we wait on the supermod, just one quick correction: today’s brief ban was an error, but it wasn't a mistake on Rock's part. Perhaps we could all be a bit more careful about pointing fingers without cause.

So, Chuck posted a rule on another thread earlier:

• The conduct guidelines for the Politics subforum apply to the use of derogatory nicknames for both forum members and third parties. Maliciously distorting names—such as Fran Tuđman, Kradimir, or Smranader (Ivo)—will not be tolerated, nor will the malicious distortion of forum members' usernames.

I just want to get this on the record—showing how Rocco interprets the very rules he’s supposed to be enforcing.

W000 said:You forgot to add "De-" to the start of the username.

goldenowl73 said:You gave yourself an imperatively patronizing nickname and that's how you act. I don't see anything wrong with the "de" prefix.

And there you have it—consistency and equality in rule enforcement? Not happening here.

While we wait for the supermod to show up, I’ve got one quick correction to make—just one. That short-term ban you received today? It was definitely a mistake, but let’s be clear: it wasn't Rocco's fault. So, maybe—just maybe—we could dial back the baseless finger-pointing a little bit, yeah?

I missed this edit earlier. Look, whether my ban was a mistake or not is secondary—it doesn't really matter whose fault it was—but Rocco’s accusations in this thread? That’s where the real issue lies. When a moderator is supposed to be exercising due diligence while leveling accusations against a user in an official appeal, making a blunder like that is just... it's egregious. If these were false allegations coming from some random guy on the forum, I'd call them terrible, but they came from a moderator during an official grievance process. In my book, that kind of thing is absolutely unacceptable in any formal communication between staff and a user. I’m not sitting here waiting for an apology—at least not a sincere one, because frankly, I wouldn't care for a fake one anyway—but it is certainly telling to see that none has been offered.

Look, I’m calling out Rocco here—it’s honestly exhausting how hard he’s trying to pin false accusations on me, and frankly, that misguided ban only proved my point. Now, let’s be clear: that ban itself? It wasn't the end of the world. It was a mistake, it got fixed, and we can move past it. No big deal. But Rocco’s little smear campaign? That’s where the real problem lies. He’s throwing around these heavy-duty accusations without a shred of actual evidence—just pure, baseless insinuation—trying to paint me as someone I'm not. It's ridiculous.

And looking at all these errors—not to mention that post right above this one—it seems like absolutely nobody is lifting a finger. We’re just sitting here again, waiting a few days for some super-moderator to finally show up and do their job... and honestly, it makes the whole thing feel completely pointless.

Nothing is truly lost here. You haven't been banned, and frankly, this is more of a conceptual matter than an urgent one. No one stands to lose anything; in fact, everyone stands to benefit if they can exercise just a little more patience while we wait for a highly skilled and deeply knowledgeable supermod to arrive. 👍

William Bennett53 As specified by:
Look, nothing is actually being lost here—you haven't been banned, and frankly, this whole situation is more of a theoretical debate than some kind of immediate crisis. It isn't an emergency. If everyone could just exercise a little bit of patience, nobody loses out; in fact, we all stand to gain once this incredibly specialized and highly informed supermod finally arrives on the scene. 👍

Oh, he’s definitely losing the plot—William Bennett53, that is. I really don't want to sound like I'm nitpicking just for the sake of being difficult—though, let's be honest, sometimes that's necessary—but it seems like you're missing some pretty fundamental points here.

Do you honestly think it’s a good idea to go on a scorched-earth spree and wipe out posts like we saw yesterday? I mean, let's look at the math—it's frankly absurd. You had roughly 30 posts scrubbed clean, about 15 different people caught in the crossfire, and yet somehow we’re left with a measly 56 posts remaining. Once the moderators swooped in on that thread, everything just... vanished. It feels less like moderation and more like a digital purge, doesn't it? They’re only 17.Do you honestly think that’s going to help the discussion? I mean—let's be real here—I have my doubts. It feels like we're just spinning our wheels at this point, almost like we're circling the drain instead of actually getting to the heart of the matter. Is it truly beneficial for the topic at hand, or are we just adding noise to an already crowded room? I'm leaning toward the latter, personally—though I might just be being overly cynical again. What do you all think?

From the moment those moderators swooped in until today, we’ve dwindled down to a measly 39 members—and that’s after only three days. It's pathetic, really. Even though they went and put a photo in the papers, they managed to churn out several more articles that, under normal circumstances, would have had the regulars absolutely tearing them apart in the comments. But now? The usual crowd—the people who actually drove the discussions and kept things interesting—has completely vanished from the thread. Gone. Just like that.

darkhawk: Without this thread we’re typing in right now—zero posts. What am I supposed to do? Just start writing only to have them wipe my entire history again out of pure spite?

Well, looks like I’ve gone and done it—I'm banned, and the thread is dead too. Just my luck, really. 😉

One of the fundamental pillars of modern civilization—at least according to the textbooks—is the right to a speedy trial. In this digital age, a forum should serve as the virtual equivalent of that judicial process. But honestly? It looks like this forum is just a perfect mirror of reality—and frankly, that’s a depressing thought. The "trials" here are agonizingly slow and incredibly inefficient. And if we're talking about systemic failures, let's be real: when it comes to freedom of speech, America is currently lagging behind several African nations on the global index. It's a mess.

darkhawk,
let’s backtrack for a moment and lay this out clearly:
- you posted in a thread using a tone the moderator deemed inappropriate, which led to your posts being removed.
- you did the right thing by coming here to formally appeal the moderator's decision.
- the moderator responded and provided their justification.
- you weren't satisfied with that explanation, so you went ahead and doubled down on your own perspective.
- since we ended up in a private session, I stepped in to halt the debate and explained that we would be seeking a ruling from a higher authority.

so now, we wait. how is that, Rock? despite everything that has been said about you here, you remain silent because that is what was requested—just as I am remaining quiet, even though I am eager to see this resolved.
We are all hoping the head moderator can step in very soon, but frankly, talk of "emergencies" is just empty noise. You haven't been banned; you are free to post, even within that controversial thread itself. The only real restriction is that until the head moderator provides a final ruling, you should probably adjust your discourse to meet the requested standards.

Therefore, I ask once more for your necessary patience.

darkhawk said:Hey, I’m calling on the admins and super mods here—could you please take a look at Ante Tomić’s thread starting from page 19? I’d really love it if you could restore all those deleted posts so we can see exactly what was considered controversial about them, provided there were actual arguments involved.

http://www.forum.com/showthread.php?t=695848&page=19

I’m not looking for the opinion of the person who hit the delete button; I want an unbiased perspective.

To be honest, a lot of what got nuked was just off-topic rambling, spam, trolling, and straight-up personal attacks. I have a feeling you're mostly concerned about your own contributions, so since three of yours were pulled, let me break those down for you.

The first deleted post barely even touches on the main subject; you just mention Ante Tomić once in passing, yet the whole thing is this massive wall of text. It almost works as a descriptive piece, but honestly, writing like that makes it hard to stay connected to the actual discussion. And before you tell me that I missed your point or haven't read enough of the thread, let me say this: being descriptive might be interesting and help convey a thought—don't get me wrong—but it’s no substitute for actually being specific. If that had been your only post, maybe it wouldn't have been flagged.

The second post, which was basically a follow-up to the first one, shows you focusing way more on the person you're arguing with than on the topic itself. It comes across as pretty patronizing, filled with those "you don't know anything" jabs, which starts veering into ad hominem territory.

Then there's the third one, which is just a continuation and an even more uncomfortable confrontation with your interlocutor. It’s just more personal attacks, and trying to shoehorn Ante Tomić back into the post wasn't enough to make it anything other than a personal spat that felt like trolling.

When you look at all three together, along with the replies they triggered, it’s essentially just a back-and-forth brawl. Since the tension was ramping up and clearly starting to poison the atmosphere of the whole thread, I think the decision to step in and clear out that level of discourse was the right call. So, in my view, the issue isn't just one descriptive post; it’s the entire chain reaction it started and how it turned into fertile ground for endless arguing.

As for the rest of the deleted stuff, it was pure insults, spam, off-topic nonsense, and trolling... some people seemed to think this was the perfect place to pick fights, but they miscalculated. They didn't even hand out many warnings—only for the really egregious violations—so I wouldn't go so far as to say the moderation has been heavy-handed.

Hopefully, that answers your question, at least until the super mod weighs in. Of course, they might see things differently.

Alright, thanks for getting back to me. So, in plain English, my grievance is baseless—just like everything else I’ve typed out here. Let’s just toss that whole complaint and whatever mess spiraled out of it into the trash where it belongs.

Fine, have it your way. There's really no need to drag the super-mod into this—besides, the guy's probably too busy anyway. Feel free to lock the thread. Moving on. Best regards, and sorry for the headache; I'll lay off. 🙂
