Since I find myself traveling through the States pretty frequently, I’m looking for some insight into the most cost-effective ways to make international calls—specifically when reaching out to Canada or Mexico.

I'm talking about calling both landlines and mobile numbers.

Basically, I want to know about specific service plans, add-on packages from major carriers, or even data-based VoIP options—anything you’ve personally found to be significantly cheaper than just paying standard roaming or long-distance rates.

I primarily rely on my smartphone (no landline at home here in the US) and a solid data connection.

Thanks in advance.

Honestly, if you want the best bang for your buck, you should just stick to Skype.
You can toss in maybe $10 or $20 and just call landlines or cell phones all day long without worrying about the bill.

I’ve got a buddy out in Australia who’s been using it for a month now; he just dropped about $20 USD on credit and hasn't looked back.
