Here’s the situation: I need to reach out to someone on Meta—someone I don't know, and who certainly doesn't know me (and no, we aren't talking about a celebrity or anything of the sort). She lives abroad and we have absolutely nothing in common. My goal is to contact her to ask some questions regarding research I'm conducting. Even though we're strangers, I've concluded that she likely possesses the specific information I need—provided she actually decides to help. The dilemma is this: since there's zero prior connection, how can I increase the odds that she’ll actually accept my friend request so I can follow up with my questions? Should I include a message along with the request? I assume I should. If so, what kind of approach works? What exactly should I write?
To preempt any questions: please don't ask me who this person is or what I'm trying to find out. It's sensitive information. I just need ideas on how to approach her to maximize the chance of getting that friend request accepted.
Thanks in advance for the help!
