I am looking for an explanation as to which moderator deleted my post in the thread regarding "European Union: Sanctions against America due to Lex Perković"...
So, the topic is "European Union: Sanctions against America due to Lex Perković"—which are nothing more than the direct consequences of the current Administration's actions—yet thanks to a pack of trolls and the silent complicity of the moderators, this has devolved into yet another gutter for people obsessed with the old guard—whether it's the Republicans, the old establishment, or any other faction—it doesn't matter to them. They are all the same: just venting their own deep-seated complexes and unfulfilled frustrations by attacking the very party without whose leadership there wouldn't even be a free America, nor international recognition, nor access to NATO or the UN... And before some "intellectual" tries to argue that a free America is solely the work of "the people" and its leaders—well, we see today what happens when a people lacks actual leadership. They become sheep!

It is absolutely disgusting to read such shameless distortions of the facts and this repetitive, mindless chanting. It is pathetic that this kind of insidious pollution is allowed to derail a discussion about the President's specific disputes with Brussels. This forum ought to be held to a much higher standard than this. Instead, it allows these mercenaries—who boast thirty thousand posts—to jump down the throats of ANYONE who dares to say something positive about the party that actually secured the freedom they are using to write these damn posts! Those losers from the fringe outlets have more integrity and patriotism than these people. While the thread was focused on the actual substance—on the President's maneuvers and manipulations—these types were hiding like cowards, staying silent because they had nothing to contribute. But the moment the focus shifts toward the Republican party, suddenly they emerge from the shadows!

It’s pathetic.

...and meanwhile, you leave every single one of that troll's posts from Ohio untouched?

Is this the unofficial forum rule now: protect the party apologists at all costs?

So, the thread was shut down today because the morning news just dropped a report saying Viviane Reding thinks the whole thing is wrapped up—but honestly, I don't think she's right. The matter isn't really settled, since the sanctions procedure actually stays in effect all the way until January 1st, 2014. But hey, anyway, the thread is locked now. :-)

The discussion is closed for now. If we haven't reached a conclusion by New Year's Day, we’ll either start a new thread or revive this one. In the meantime, there are plenty of other topics on the PDF to keep you busy. Just some strategies for attacking or defending The Administration's moves.

Charles Fox10 said:Look, the discussion is winding down, and if we aren't finished by New Year's Day, we’ll just start a new thread or reactivate this one... until then, you have plenty of other topics to sink your teeth into on the PDF archives. It's all just politics, whether you're attacking or defending the Administration's latest moves.

I was actually going to ask the same thing, because nothing is really settled yet—everything is still very much in progress. Besides, I feel like the conversations here are quite substantive and the topic remains incredibly relevant, so seeing this current thread locked left me a bit stunned... I was right in the middle of typing out my response when I saw your post. I have to say, I haven't encountered this kind of practice where threads are shut down mid-discussion on any other forum I've frequented...😕>

Melissa Walker86 said:Honestly, I’d ask the same thing. It’s not like Charles Fox10 is finished or anything; everything is still moving through the legal process. Besides, I feel like we’re having some pretty heavy, serious discussions here. Seeing your post shut down an active topic just left me stunned—I was literally mid-sentence typing a reply when it happened. I haven't seen anyone locking up ongoing threads like this on any other forum I've been on.😕

Isn't it weird how they just lock threads that aren't even causing issues? 🤷

I honestly can't believe it. It’s just absurd... they’re essentially slamming the door right in our faces on an issue that is incredibly vital and very much alive...😕

If the party says the case is closed, then it’s closed. What else is there to write about, talk about, or even think about?

As far as I can gather, the law doesn't actually kick in until November 1st, 2014, so nothing is set in stone just yet, and there really isn't any reason to stop discussing this...

This thread is locked per this link which makes things pretty clear:

When asked when the Commission would drop the case they started before America updated its laws, Viviane Reding replied they’ll shut it down as soon as the new law kicks in.

"Member states just give their input, but it's up to the Commission to take action, and they're staying the course—which is already paying off," said Reding.

Basically, the sanctions process isn't paused, nor will it be until January 1, 2014. Because of that, the topic "EU: Sanctions against America due to 'Lex Perković' - summary" shouldn't be locked. It's still totally relevant, at least until the start of 2014 while the sanctions stay active.

I mean, should we just ignore our own eyes and what Reding is saying about the sanctions continuing just because you guys say so? 🤷

Locking this thread is completely pointless.
Maybe Charles Fox10 is just planning to start a whole new thread—and probably in the Politics section—about the old intelligence agency scandals and how their crimes were never actually dealt with.
Look, who knows? Honestly, there's no telling what goes through a moderator's head sometimes.

If things are settled for Viviane Reding, then I suppose they're settled. She likely knows best.

I don't see what that has to do with anything; this isn't some fleeting news clip that just expired. This remains a significant issue—one that clearly continues to capture the attention of this entire forum, judging by the sheer volume of posts and views we're seeing here. Feel free to tweak the headline if you must, but let's not be ridiculous...

There’s no actual debate happening on this thread, everything is just moving along far too smoothly, which makes me wonder, WTF?...

Charles Fox10 said:If Viviane Reding says we're done, then we're done. I mean, she clearly knows what's up better than anyone else.

I reckon that's a closed case—Congress finally passed the law the Administration promised us. Once that law is actually on the books, we’ll pull the plug on the sanctions immediately."That's just how it is," Viviane Reding said.
[....]
She added it. So, how did all those different EU countries react to the whole situation with the US and that European arrest warrant? Any word on what they're saying? If it's up to the Commission, then that's how they're gonna roll. They'll keep doing exactly what they've been doing.

From what I can tell, even Reding is saying that the sanctions process will freeze once the law actually kicks in on January 1st, 2014, while the Commission keeps doing its thing. So basically, nothing changes. It’s not over until New Year's Day!

Just because she voiced her opinion doesn't mean it's official business yet. We aren't closing the book on this one just yet!
I mean, look, our own elected Administration and that powerhouse Prime Minister basically said Viviane Reding is a nobody. She’s just some random bureaucrat, so I don't see why anyone should even bother listening to her opinion. 🤷
Look, if her take actually carries any weight, then the bottom line is this: Viviane Reding made it clear that the sanctions process wasn't put on hold until January 1st, 2014. That means there’s zero reason to drop the subject—it's still very much alive and kicking.

Could an administrator please be so kind as to explain why this thread was locked in the first place?
I would appreciate it if someone could point me toward the specific rule regarding thread closures... perhaps then you might decide whether to simply delete the topic after a while once it's no longer relevant.

edit

Even if we set aside the fact that this isn't particularly relevant—given that we are just discussing a forum thread and there hasn't been any actual disruption—even a news article suggests that The Administration's anonymous assault on the Supreme Court feels like a regression back to 1945. This whole situation has unraveled a series of critical issues, ranging from the influence of intelligence agencies and the integrity of the judiciary to the interpretation of laws and our obligations under international treaties...
