Forget overclocking. It’s honestly a waste of money to pay that $333 premium over a non-K i5 just to get an expensive motherboard, a beefy cooler, and a pricier CPU for some negligible performance bump. You’re way better off dumping that cash into a better GPU where you'll actually see the gains. The only time it makes sense is in those Apple builds where everything else is already top-tier and you basically have no other smart way to spend the money.
I'm talking about Intel here. An FX chip is basically just your standard mid-range processor; since you can overclock it anyway, you can just grab a decent motherboard and a mid-range cooler and push it to 4.2-4.4GHz.
