Kimberly Lewis86 said:I used spray foam just to make it easier to create a mold that the fiberglass would eventually bond to, and once that fiberglass dries, you just pull the foam out and you're left with nothing but the fiberglass mold, which is exactly how I handled my fender flares!!
So, using spray foam was honestly the easiest way for me to work since it’s so easy to shape!
Fiberglass is what they use to build boats, so I'm pretty confident my flares will hold up just fine...

Look, man! If you head over to Home Depot, you can pick up something called POROFEN that is actually much easier to shape than spray foam... it's brick-colored and you can just smooth it down into whatever shape you want, which gives you a solid mold to show off all those little custom projects of yours!

EDIT..besides that, if you're just doing minor fender flares, there's a specific tool for "pulling" the flares out that works way better because it follows the natural line of the wheel well perfectly...

EDIT 2: And honestly, you'll never pass a state inspection because your custom flares and wings won't meet any legal homologation standards. You'll only be able to drive that thing on backroads or private property!

I have been contemplating building this specifically for hill climb racing. The car is practically tailor-made for that kind of competition given its featherweight curb weight of just 1,400 lbs, and I am seriously considering swapping in a Honda 1.6 VTI engine, much like the setup this individual utilized here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H39t1rrcLv8

I was wondering if I could take my rear drum over to a machine shop to have them drill out 4x108 bolt patterns, since I'm currently stuck with 3x98.

Do you actually have the budget for this kind of nonsense? Honestly, man, you know exactly how much work goes into trying to force gasoline into an AX diesel engine—why on earth would you make things that complicated? If you’re hell-bent on driving it, just stuff a vintage Fiat or Lancia engine into the damn thing and call it a day.
But that bit about using spray foam... that’s just pure comedy.
Look, do whatever you want, I guess, but just try to make sure the car doesn't completely disintegrate the moment you lean against a fender.

Look, man, just get real for a second. If you aren't just trolling and actually intend to commit to a project like this, you surely realize you won't be tackling any serious off-road trails in a car like that... and there is absolutely no point in wasting money upgrading those pathetic brakes for that kind of terrain because you won't even survive your first attempt at driving it through the dirt...

My honest advice? Maybe pick up a hobby you actually understand, because fixing a commuter car is worlds apart from building a legit race machine. If you had even a shred of clue, you’d know you don't start this journey with a used Chevy Spark, even if it's the only thing sitting in your driveway right now. It would be way more logical to just sell it for scrap at a local junkyard and use that cash to buy something that can actually handle being modified for the mountains, rather than trying to turn that little thing into some eyesore that looks like it's trying—and failing—to be an off-roader...

Seriously, you’re being a total drag—like a bad case of food poisoning. How many times are we going to cycle through this exact same topic? With all that overcomplicating, you aren't going to get anywhere beyond the driveway. Technically speaking, it’s never going to pass inspection, and there is absolutely no way you'll be hauling a steep grade with a rig put together like that...

Seriously kid, you’re being such a pain. Just take your trashy, rusted-out bucket and get off this forum already.

Seriously, guys, what is wrong with you? From what I can gather, the kid is just starting high school. He wants to present his project—which, let’s be honest, is pretty questionable—but at least he’ll learn something and have a bit of fun along the way. You all jumped down his throat so hard, you'd think this was some elite Ivy League research forum where only top-tier experts are allowed to speak. Meanwhile, there’s a thread somewhere about "The best pine tree air freshener for your car" that features a "deep and philosophical" debate? What is your deal?

The car is fantastic, and I truly believe it’s going to be a massive hit. However, you really need to ramp up the promotion. You should be posting updates with photos more frequently on forums, Facebook, and X... that's honestly the only way you're going to make this a success.

Just a heads-up for when you head out to Saudi Arabia with him for those presentations—try not to get burned quite like Tesla did:

Elon Musk got absolutely wrecked
