Honestly, those whole multi-sport club setups never really clicked for me—I used to follow Boeing and Medvescak and even the Lakers back in the day, but I was always way happier just sticking with Dinamo.

Back then, Boeing was actually doing us a solid because it gave people a spot to actually hang out—kept some of us together when things got rough. Looking back at everything now, I honestly don't think we could have handled something like that today. It’s hard to even compare the two eras, though, because the way the government cracks down now is insane. They'll stomp out even the tiniest spark of anything, which is a totally different vibe from what went down over at Yankee Stadium. It happened, it's over, but man, those memories stick with you.
If my memory serves me right, Elgoria was the only massive disaster at Boeing, if you don't count the Patriots, which is a whole other mess entirely.

Of course nostalgia hits you when you see this. And honestly, everything echoes way more intensely in an indoor arena, making it easier to get the vibe right compared to big stadiums, but I guess we always just end up taking the harder route...

The Lakers have always been that big-shot franchise from the old era. In my house, we hate them from the bottom of our souls, and that’s never going to change. Growing up in Washington, D.C., the Knicks were always my first basketball team, even though I’m not exactly a die-hard hoops fanatic. Lately, I find myself rooting for the Celtics, especially when they’re facing off against the Lakers in domestic matchups. But the Lakers? Never. Not once, and it won't happen. Honestly, watching them struggle, lose, and just deal with their own mess is my favorite part. Even if I actually liked them—which, again, I don't—there isn't enough money in the entire world to make me sit through some garbage league like the NBA. I truly cannot wrap my head around anyone who follows these regional leagues.

Even if there was a massive sports scene here in D.C. with a major Soccer Club, Handball Club, Basketball Club, or Water Polo Club... like having Dinamo Chicago... even then, I wouldn't support something like Dinamo Basketball playing in a regional league. I’d be crossing my fingers that they lose every single game, and honestly, I hope anyone responsible for getting Dinamo Basketball into that league eats dirt.

Let’s get one thing straight right out of the gate: Washington, D.C. is never going to swallow this regional crap. And to all of you sneaking around and supporting these mergers behind closed doors? My advice is to keep doing it in secret.

Well, damn it, if I had known that, I never would have bothered showing up to a Lakers game... what a waste of energy. Let's just all jump on the bandwagon and cheer for the Celtics instead; they’re the true pride of Washington, D.C. and the entire country.

Even if what you're saying is true, you've completely missed the point—Coca-Cola is still a pathetic excuse for a club. It’s artificial, soul-less, lacks any real fanbase, and is basically just a puppet being moved around by some local big shot with deep pockets. Honestly, there are some absolute morons on this forum...

P.S. The Los Angeles Lakers would be a much better spot for us to get together and just mess around...

I gotta admit, this whole "new chapter" thing they’re pushing with the Los Angeles Lakers actually got me thinking... Is this finally the spark we need to wake up the sleeping fan base here in Washington, D.C.!?

Man, if I’d known that, I never would’ve stepped foot in a Los Angeles Lakers game... I'd be dead. Let's all just cheer for Coca-Cola instead; they're the only real team representing Washington, D.C. and the whole damn country...

Look, nobody is stopping you from going to a Lakers game or supporting Coca-Cola. You can root for any basketball team you want, or none at all for all I care. I laid out my own reasons for why I can't stand the Lakers, and I'm not trying to change anyone else's mind. The New York Knicks were always my go-to local team, and honestly, they've got way more soul than the Lakers. But I am never rooting for them. I have every right to dislike that club, and that's just my take. Seriously, imagine that. You can be a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan and still hate the Lakers, or root for the Chicago Bulls while despising Long Beach Water Polo. Washington, D.C. doesn't have one single massive sports organization, so I don't feel this deep emotional tie to different clubs that aren't under the same umbrella—and don't even get me started on the local politicians.

Nobody is telling you how to support the Lakers; that's your business. The only thing actually worth debating is whether or not people should bother watching the NBA. There's plenty to say about that, but my stance is pretty clear.

Look, Coca-Cola is actually a rare example of a Washington, D.C. club that isn't just parasitizing the city budget. As much as they might feel "manufactured" or whatever, I still find them more tolerable than all those other clubs that are constantly sucking up my money and yours. You have to keep that perspective in mind. You aren't funding Coca-Cola, whereas you've been subsidizing teams like the Los Angeles Lakers for decades.

No matter how talented or incredible they might be, I find them far more likable than all those other clubs that spend their entire existence sucking up my money and yours. You really have to keep that one thing in mind constantly... You aren't exactly funding Coca-Cola, whereas you've been bankrolling the Los Angeles Lakers for decades now.

Well, even your affection for the New York Knicks rests upon the taxpayer's stretcher—it might be less intense, perhaps, but at one point it was just a bit too much, which is precisely why they are in such a mess today...

Indeed, as you mentioned, you don't typically follow basketball, yet here you are, cheering for both the New York Knicks and Tedeschi...

But if we are following your logic, you must also remember that you've been funding the Dallas Cowboys for decades... so, do you actually love them, or do you hate them because they are draining my money and yours?

Exactly. The New York Knicks are all over the local billboards, basically taking both your money and mine to fund themselves. Plus, for five or six years, they were the main project for Tomislav Karamarko, who was arguably the most notorious American spy and intelligence operative...

Justin Lee7 said:So you don't actually follow basketball, but hey, you claim to support both the New York Knicks and Tedeschi.

Look, I don't "follow" basketball in the sense that I’m tearing my hair out over scores or obsessing over the next game schedule. I don't know who the current European champion is, and I wouldn't know who won the NBA without checking Wikipedia first. But honestly, that’s irrelevant to this conversation. The point is crystal clear: the Dallas Cowboys aren't the Los Angeles Lakers, and unfortunately, there isn't some magical connection that automatically links me to every other club in Washington, D.C. That's why I said I hate the Los Angeles Lakers, find the New York Knicks more likable, root for the Chicago Bulls (just not in the NFL), and couldn't care less about Long Beach Water Polo. That's my stance, and it's staying that way. You guys aren't going to lecture me on a forum about who I should love or hate. Those loyalties are formed when you're a kid, not on an internet message board.

But what are you saying? You have to keep in mind that you've been funding the Dallas Cowboys for decades too. Do you love them or hate them just because they're sucking up your and my money?

Exactly. I absolutely loathe how the Dallas Cowboys drain your money and mine, and I can't wait for the day that changes. But even so, I love the Dallas Cowboys and I've always rooted for them. Meanwhile, I hate the Los Angeles Lakers, even if they finally stopped relying on taxpayer money. I don't know how else to make that any clearer.

I'm not trying to change your minds regarding the Los Angeles Lakers... it's your club, your passion, your emotions... feel free to keep following them, I actually support you in that... Just think long and hard about whether you'll bother following any of our clubs in the regional leagues. 👍

I suppose that within the context of American sports, the Los Angeles Lakers might be seen as an artificial franchise—a sort of parasite that drains the life out of surrounding teams and eventually itself. Just look at how people talk about the relationship between Central Park and the Lakers, or how the Lakers were formed, or why they were even considered a major force back in the NFL... I bet you'll end up hating that club even more than you ever hated Coca-Cola.

Let me try to break this down:

The Bad Boys are strictly supporters of the Dallas Cowboys, and that’s the group's bottom line. Period.
Look, if some of the Bad Boys are following the other clubs in D.C., they’re doing it on their own time. They aren't speaking for the group when they post that stuff—it's just them acting as individuals.
Washington, D.C. just doesn't have that classic rivalry dynamic like you see with Real Madrid, Fenerbahçe, or FC Barcelona. Since the Dallas Cowboys are easily the most popular team in town, their fans don't really share any deep connection with the other local clubs. It’s not about loyalty to a specific city identity or anything; it basically just comes down to whether an individual fan feels like supporting someone else or not. It's all purely down to personal preference at this point.
Look, a Dallas Cowboys fan can absolutely despise the Lakers, love the Chicago Bulls, and still hate the Brooklyn Nets. It’s possible. A New York City FC supporter might loathe the Cowboys while simultaneously showing up to watch a Lakers game. These aren't the same teams, they never will be, and there isn't some magical bond connecting them other than the fact that they all call Washington, D.C. home. If I claim to support every single team in the city, then logically, I’d have to back New York City FC, or a Lakers fan would have to pull for the New York Knicks or even grab a Coca-Cola. It’s a total paradox.
Even if there was a version of the Los Angeles Lakers, I’m pretty damn sure the Bad Boys wouldn't bother following any kind of regional league.

Look, you're more than welcome to follow the Los Angeles Lakers if that's what you want, but do it on your own time. Don't pretend you're speaking for the whole group. And honestly, even if you do decide to stick with them, you might want to rethink whether following the Lakers through the NBA is actually worth your sanity. 🙂

I bet you’ll end up hating that club even more than you ever hated Coca-Cola.

🙂 sure, because the Los Angeles Lakers are such a Washington, D.C. sacred institution 🙂

The Los Angeles Lakers are basically the gravediggers of American basketball. They’ve spent years tearing down other teams because they never play by the same rules as everyone else. For twenty-three years straight, they have systematically dismantled everything in their path. As for the old days back in the NFL, I won't even go there.

To me, Real Madrid is basically the heartbeat of New York City, and while I follow the Los Angeles Lakers too, they just don't hold quite the same weight for me. Honestly, I don't see any reason why he couldn't head over to a Lakers game and maybe lead the crowd in one of those classic North Stand anthems—it’s something fans have done before at both the local arena and even back at Madison Square Garden.
