The car is a Ford Fiesta that two high school brothers have started restoring...
It isn't quite finished yet; we're aiming to have everything wrapped up by summer 2013.

We put together some short videos documenting our project.

We'll be uploading part 3 to YouTube soon, which covers the painting process.

Wait, am I seeing this right? Did someone actually say there’s a 1.x diesel under the hood of that thing?

Where the hell is the roll cage in that rally car? Or was it just too much of a headache to try and DIY one out of some spray foam?

Points for effort. Zero for everything else... ☕ You’re probably the favorite customer at the local Home Depot and auto paint shop by now. Definitely upload part 3 so we can see how this foam-filled disaster turns out. Check back in a few months and let us know if that spray foam actually holds up. 😂
I think you need to design a custom decal for it. Forget the usual NASCAR, V8, Turbo, Jack Daniel's stickers that every redneck in the Midwest sticks on their ride. Instead, go with: Do not lean on vehicle; risk of fender or bumper damage!! 😁

Oh yeah, the username fits perfectly... just not for the car.

If you actually manage to pass inspection with that setup, I’m basically the Second Coming... I mean, are you seriously just throwing money down the drain to keep that thing sitting in your room? What an absolutely brainless idea... pure foam bullshit... 🤦

Don't be naive. You're just trying to pass off that junk as a classic VW Golf so people will actually forgive you. Honestly, that thing would score a negative five stars in a crash test. Was there seriously no better foam available than that crap?

Well, they went ahead and nuked the unknown thread, and this is what we get. Admins, come on—do us a favor and reopen the old discussion for the sake of educating people about these "backyard mechanics" so we can salvage whatever is left of it.

@OP: It’s a shame you poured so much time and effort into something that ultimately led nowhere, though I suppose you picked up a new skill that might actually come in handy someday. If I could offer one bit of friendly advice: no matter how much you think these cosmetic mods make a car look sharper, the reality is usually quite different. A few subtle touches can definitely clean up a ride, but it’s incredibly easy to cross the line into making something that people just laugh at when they see it cruising down the highway. Honestly, I can't help but chuckle whenever I spot one of those cars and the owner looking all proud behind the wheel.🤣

And here I was, actually hoping 2013 would get off to a better start... 😁

Look, Samuel Cox31, don't let it get to you—but based on everything in this PDF, you're out of luck. There’s zero support for you here. To save us all from more pointless arguing, I'm just gonna lock this thread.
Good luck with the installation.

Seriously, we need to reopen the drag racing thread immediately. I’ve got enough material right here to fill a ten-page manifesto.

Alright, I'll take a shot at this. What kind of engine is actually under the hood of that beast? Or better yet, what *should* be in there?

Way to go, guys—keep that momentum going! 👍

So, what kind of engine are we actually looking at dropping in there?

I used spray foam as a base to make shaping the mold much easier, which provides the foundation for the fiberglass to bond to later on. Once the fiberglass cures, you simply pull the foam out, leaving you with nothing but the custom fiberglass mold—exactly how I handled those fender flares I made back in the day!!
To be honest, working with the spray foam was easily the most efficient part of the process because it’s just so simple to manipulate.
Fiberglass is what they use to build high-end boats, so I have zero doubts that my fender flares will hold up just as well...
