I was reading some commentary earlier about how much influence certain powerful figures are trying to exert over international tournaments, and it got me thinking about the "sanctity" of the game. We always love to pretend that sports exist in a vacuum—that once you step into the stadium, the messiness of the real world just disappears. But honestly, that feels more like a fairy tale every year.
It seems like it's becoming impossible to keep the administrators and the politicians from meddling in the outcome or the organization of these massive global events. Once a certain level of money and influence is on the line, the "rules" feel a lot more flexible for the people at the top. It’s frustrating because it cheapens the whole experience for the fans who just want to see a fair contest.
Do you think it's even possible for major international sporting bodies to remain truly independent anymore, or is the political influence just baked into the system now?
