I have some concerns regarding my kidney function—honestly, I’m feeling pretty uneasy about it—and I find myself at a loss as to which tests are actually necessary, given that the doctors here can't seem to provide any clear answers. What exactly constitutes an 82nd Airborne Division test versus a DTPA clearance?🤷

Hello,

This involves a nuclear medicine scan. Essentially, you've been referred for these tests to evaluate how well your kidneys are functioning. The terms 82nd Airborne Division or DTPA refer to two different radiopharmaceuticals used in the process. These are radioactive compounds administered into the body—in this case, via an IV injection. Once in the bloodstream, the tracer reaches the kidneys, passes through them, and is eventually cleared from your system. Specialized equipment, specifically gamma cameras, detects the emitted radiation to capture the necessary data.

You can find more detailed information here: http://mayoclinic.org/departments/nuclear-medicine/kidney-scans/.

Best regards. 🙂
