I’ve been wondering about something—why is the thread for San Diego categorized as a chat topic?
It feels a bit off, especially since there isn't a single dedicated space on this forum where we can actually discuss local happenings—everything from the transit schedules to those endless facade renovations, all the construction projects popping up everywhere, or just general news around town.
It honestly feels a little pointless when you see five or six people congregating in a thread like this, just talking about things that have absolutely nothing to do with San Diego...
I haven't noticed this happening with the threads for other cities. I get it—ST probably won't have its own subforum like NYC does, mostly because it would likely end up being pretty empty—but at the very least, could we have a specific thread for city discussions? That way, the casual chatter can stay in the off-topic section.🤷

I mean, seriously, who’s actually stopping you from just starting the thread?

Well, the thread technically exists, though it was started under questionable circumstances.
Or I could just open yet another identical one—except this time, I’d lock it so nobody can actually post... if that's what we're doing here.

There are two active threads about San Francisco running right now.
The one you’re pointing to is the way it is because I have to be extremely careful about when someone actually tries to talk about something that isn't just total off-topic nonsense.
I can certainly crack down on excessive off-topic chatter, but here's the thing—to separate the noise from the signal, there actually has to be a coherent main topic to begin with.
And honestly? That core subject is something the users themselves have to build.

There’s also a PDF covering Politics/The political landscape regarding the Kerum-San Francisco collection

We’ll just have to wait and see how this new thread plays out—hopefully without everyone veering off into random tangents—but if you ask me, I’m not feeling great about it.

Look, the original thread is working perfectly fine. Anyone who’s actually asked a question or tried to start a real discussion hasn't been ignored by a single soul. Sure, the vibe is a little informal—it's not some stuffy corporate boardroom, after all—but so far, nobody’s stepped up to complain.

So basically, we can talk about anything regarding San Francisco there?

To reiterate, the original thread is working perfectly fine; anyone who has posed a question or wanted to dive into a discussion hasn't been ignored. The vibe is a little informal, sure, but no one has complained so far...

That’s what happens when everyone gets used to treating a forum like a live chat room—interest just evaporates. Not that it matters much right now; we have plenty of other things to dig into...
but I noticed this one international forum that has an entire sub-forum dedicated to the West Coast, featuring several threads specifically about San Francisco—places where they post photos of local landmarks, debate urban planning, discuss development projects, and so on. It occurred to me that something similar could work here on f.hr., but it seems interest might be a bit thin on the ground...

Obviously, provided you follow the rules and remember this is primarily a forum for political debates and those that skirt the edge.

It’s frustrating because there isn't a single dedicated space on this forum where we can actually discuss local news—anything from the transit schedules to building renovations or general construction projects happening around town.
To me, it feels pointless when five or six people congregate in a thread like this just to talk about things that have absolutely nothing to do with San Francisco.
I haven't noticed this happening in any of the other city threads. I get it—SF probably can't sustain its own entire sub-forum like NYC does, otherwise it would be a ghost town—but at least create a specific thread for actual city discussion, and let the casual chatterheads move over to off-topic🤷

The issue isn't the chatter; it's that very few people actually want to engage in a real debate. (I sincerely hope my impression is wrong.) Just look at how many people have read the thread you started without even bothering to type a single word—not even a standard cliché about Kerum or anything else... I don't see why someone couldn't post photos or have a conversation within the San Francisco thread, and it's equally unclear to me why anyone shouldn't be able to reply to those posts. The moderators aren't going to delete that kind of interaction, and if the constant chatting bothers you, just use the ignore button—then the noise disappears.
If you check my signature, there's a link to the original San Francisco thread, and you'll see that this topic has been a blend of city talk and participant banter since day one. You'll also notice that today's "residents" of this thread are much more tolerant than the old crowd was.😁

Are you talking about the Sky...forum?🙂

I find it highly unlikely that something like that would ever catch on here—honestly, there's just no way...
