About two weeks ago, I suddenly started running a low-grade fever, hovering around 99-99.5°F. Along with that, I began experiencing intense burning sensations in my genitals and urethra, which eventually spread up into my abdomen. I’ve already gone through the ringer with testing for bacteria, trichomonas, candida, chlamydia, and several other pathogens that tend to hide deep within the tissue walls, but everything came back negative. Later on, they actually found some kind of skin bacterium in my ejaculate, though they insisted it was completely harmless.
Right now, my doctor has me trying Doxycycline, which has actually helped dial down the burning and the pain a little bit. Looking back, I dealt with chronic mononucleosis about six years ago, and honestly, the symptoms feel almost identical right now: swollen lymph nodes, a fever that fluctuates during the day only to drop by the evening, profound weakness and exhaustion, and even occasional tingling in my hands and feet (?!).
I just got my EBV results back yesterday, and they were negative. I also had X-rays done on my spine, thinking perhaps a pinched nerve might be causing the discomfort, but everything looks fine there. My bladder and kidney ultrasounds also came back clear. My blood work and urinalysis are mostly normal, too, with the exception of one liver enzyme being just a tiny bit elevated—maybe by about 5%.
The core issues are still very much present, and I'm feeling quite lost as to what is actually happening. To be fair, I haven't engaged in any high-risk sexual behavior, nor have I had blood transfusions or any needle exposure that would suggest a more serious viral infection, so I'm really struggling with this sense of uncertainty.
